Goodmorning all,
Hope Monday is pretty neat wherever you are..:)
I was talking to the neighbour along the road last night. He informed me
that their Mother Rat is pregnant again, but assured me that she hadn't been
with any of the males.. ( Now go figure...immaculate conception sprung to my
mind). No definitely not with any other Rat. Apparently she had some sperm
left in her from her last encounter with a male. My mind boggled at this
piece of information... but I was assured that it happens very very rarely
but it DOES happen. Has anyone heard of this before? I would have thought
having had a litter she would have been well and truly "cleaned" out?
Excuse the crassness I don't know how else to put it?.
Sadly they gave the pregnant Mum away to a pet shop in town, where the
owner is going to keep the Mum to breed from...:( The poor girl only had
her litter 7 weeks ago..:( and now pregnant again....
Oh well... I will be interested in everyone's opinions on this as I have
never heard of it.
Regards Kate.
(yes this is the same neighbours who assured me NO MORE BABIES... ( yeah
right!) )

Today I may meet with injustice, ignorance, denial, all of which are due
entirely to the other's lack of knowledge of good and evil and the
difference thereof.

That is so sad for the poor rat mom. I have never heard of this ever
happening but maybe Paghat will know more... but I just can't imagine this
being true. Some people are just too... ugh...

Can't say as I have heard of this phenomenon before.

I've never heard of it happening, but my rat got pregnant by a male who was
in an adjacent cage (with a 1/2" gap between the wire of the two cages). I
didn't see it happen but that is the closest they got to each other, when
one lot were free-ranging the others' cage was put up on a table which was
inaccessible. The boys belonged to a friend of mine and I was minding them
while he was away, three weeks after the boys came to stay my girl blew up
like a balloon and produced a litter of squeakers.
