I've got two rats, so whenever I give out treats I give out two or
more (unless it's something huge, like a banana peel). The other day,
I handed them each a Cheese Wedge (large, crunchy things) in the cage.
Tyche climbed to the very top of the cage and hid hers on top of a
box. Maia climbed to the opposite corner in the bottom of the cage
and stuffed it in the corner.
Tyche climbed down, grabbed Maia's wedge and hauled it up to the box.
Meanwhile, Maia climbed up, grabbed Tyche's wedge and stuffed it in
the corner. Then Tyche climbed down, Maia climbed up, and they traded
wedges again. And again. And again.
They stopped when my fiance came in to see what I was laughing about,
because he distracted them and they got their timing off. But they'd
been going for several minutes, up and down and up and down, passing
precisely in the middle, paying no attention to the other rat with a
very familiar-looking Cheese Wedge....

All my male rats have always loved tissues! They have always openly stolen
any form of paper, however big (or important! LOL - like my boyfriend's
C.V.) and dragged it, or tried to drag it, back to their cage. But yes,
they do tend to just then dump it anywhere and not stash it neatly away!

Yes. Not only do they like the same part of the banana that I do,
they also like the white stringy bits on the inside of the peel.

It never ceases to amaze me what these guys can do... I give them paper
tissues and toilet paper and there are two in particular who have hissy
fits trying to grab it all up and stuff the igloos with it all...LOL... I
don't think the other guys are too impressed .. if they are in the way they
get stomped over...:)
Have a great day all
Regards Kate.

Bet that was great to watch. It always makes me laugh just how determined
rats can be! I love watching my ratties- it can be hilarious can't it?
My babies have just discovered that they can walk upside down on the roof of
the cage. They also swing from the bars at the top with just their front
paws and swing along from bar to bar like kids on monkey bars at the park.
So cute & their mum has actually started joining in too!!

Unfortunately my oldest girl, Flo, whose cranial malfunctions may not
be limited to her head tilt after all, has taken the idea too far.
Sure, it's really nice to have her as an active participant when I
throw out the old bedding and replace it with fresh clean tissues. And
it was great when she decided she wouldn't wait for me to put them in
the cage, and instead would come out to the loveseat and get one from
me, drag it into the cage and come back for more. But I became
concerned when I noticed her perched on the back of the loveseat
pulling the curtain that falls behind it up and piling it into a
bundle. I think she has her eye on that as a nice complement to her
sleeping quarters and I'm worried that somehow, she may find a way.

My boys actually like tissues too (though admittedly the younger
guys are much more interested than the old coot is). They'll rather
forcefully grab them from me to pull them into the cage.
My previous sweetie, Cinnamon, was obsessive about the same, much
like a girl, I guess, and would drag anything of that nature into the
cage that he could find. I once gave the guys a cardboard clothing
box with a cut-out door on the side with the tissue paper left inside
for them to play in while on my bed. Mr. Cinnamon managed to pull
that very large piece of tissue paper out through the rather small
opening in the flat box and dragged it furiously across the bed and
up into their cage. His determination about it was really quite
something to see.
Unfortunately, my boys don't seem to be much with the interior
decorating once they do get ahold of something like that, though.
The main objective just seems to be getting the paper/tissue into
the cage, and once it's there, who cares much about where it's placed.
I guess their abode really could use a "woman's touch." :)
