Is it a good idea to withhold foods from rats? Sort of an occasional
fast day? I have heard that there are benefits for humans. How about
rats?

No.
Not that overfeeding is good for them either, but if they're getting
an appropriate diet every day, withholding food will just make them
hungry and annoyed. (You should see how mine get when I'm late with
their breakfast!)

Personally I wouldn't withhold food from a Rat. Fasting may be beneficial
for us Humans but we have a slow metabolism which is totally opposite to
that of a Rat. These guys eat it then burn it....:)

I would say not. It just seems a bit cruel to me to withold food, the rats
won't know what's happening. And as pointed out in previous posts, they
don't have the same eating patterns or metabolisms as us. And remember one
day to us is like several days to a rat.
