Hi all!
I'm soon going to be mum to two more ratties (thanks Jen!), so with Louie,
that will be three rats. I want to invest in a nice new cage, plenty big
enough for three. Can any of you direct me to a good UK site for cages
(going to buy on line). I can't afford anything more expensive than £90 at
the moment and it would be good if the cages were fairly easy to clean. Any
recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Tracey,
I've been seeing this particular cage available in the UK and not my
side of the ocean. :( Because if it was... I would have a few of them.
They are a perfect size for 3 or 4 male rats. It has some great accessories
for the rats: tube funnels, lots of wire climbing, ladder, and solid floor,
stick a hammock in there and it's rattie heaven. It's a little more than
what you said you can afford, but it looks like it's worth it.
Here's a link, maybe you could find it cheaper at Ebay or something like
that...

Hi
The 'Jenny' cage Joanne suggested is great - they sell it in Pets at Home in
Chesterfield for £89 pounds I think. I nearly bought it but decided it was a
bit big for the space I had - when you actually stand next to it it's HUGE!!
I've just ordered a Critter 3 cage - £77 including delivery within 28 days.
It was from the second site Joanne suggested coz someone suggested it to me
too a few weeks ago - thanks :o) Can't wait for it to arrive - the ratties
will love it!!

We have the "Critter-3" (I think - it looks almost identical). It's
actually a Critter-1 and Critter-2 combined - obviously with one roof
missing.
We found that construction from the instructions provided took a little
imagination.
Other than that, we found that the only major problem was the join
between what would have been the "-2" and the "-1": the wobbly feel it
had didn't inspire confidence. The fix was simple - we attached four
springs (with rounded hook ends) bewteen the two sections (mounted more-
or-less vertically), one near each corner on the longest sides of the
cage. We searched high-and-low for springs: In the end, we bought a
couple of brake-pad fixing kits from a car parts supplier (having
selected one with suitable springs), and used the springs from that. The
whole structure is now very stable. If the springs don't hold tightly,
they can be mounted at a slight angle, providing the appropriate tension.
Oh yes, and the metal clips supplied are too flimsy and even break after
a short while.
I just have to put a disclaimer in here..... The author in no way accepts
any liability for personal or rat injury resulting from the above advice,
nor does he accept any damage to the cage or any property whatsoever by
using third-party springs. Springs can be dangerous if stretched and then
released against delicate areas of the body, such as eyes, chest or
buttocks. The author does not condone or advise the use of springs for
adult games of any description whatsoever. The author is not attempting
to suggest that critter cages are better or worse than any other brand.
These cages are not designed to withstand nuclear attack. Other makes of
rat cage are available.
