I have a parakeet and its beak seems to be very overgrown. The entire cage
is filled with beak trimmers, bones, the perch has a sandpaper cover but the
bird just refuses to trim its beak on those on its own. What other options
are there for beak trimming other than taking the bird to a vet..

Could be mites or a serious disease. Spend the money for a vet visit on
this.

Steve,
Also GET RID of that sandpaper cover for the perch. It'll only end up
causing your bird foot problems.

Get rid of the sandpaper perch covers, they are very bad and can cause
bumblefoot.
Overgrown beak can be a sign of liver disease. It soulds like you are not
really sure that it *is* actually too long. The only thing I can suggest is
a visit to an avian vet. Is there any particular reason you are so against
it?

Someboyd please call the calendar manufactures and the papers. As it's a "red
letter day" in that OM and I actually agree on something, for a change. . .

Take him to an Avian Vet soon. An overgrown beak could indicate other
problems (so I have been told) Make sure it is an Avian Vet.
Also, I wouldn't try trimming a beak myself. There are all sorts of
blood vessels that can be cut.

You need to take him to an avian vet (not a regular vet with no avian
training) and have his beak expertly trimmed (extremely dangerous if done
wrong---blood vessels could be cut). They will also try and determine the
cause of the overgrowing beak.

Steve,
Ever here the old saying that ya can catch more flies with honey then ya can
with vinegar??? And uh Sorry dude, but I've been insulted by people whose job
that it was to insult and break me and your attempts are very amateurish in
comparison.
And as much as I'd like to say that I was "surprised" at your attempt to
insult me I am not. As insults are more often then not the last resort of the
intellectually challenged.

No, I didn't miss it. I have no desire to make friends (allies, or anything
like that) here.
I'm really wondering why you either don't know that, think that you could
possibly change it, or think that I even care.

Yes, we've already decided that. But was does my being a mere insult
amateur have to do with anything? I want to know.
btw - you seem to be trying to insult me. Please see your comment below on
using insults.

You spend too much time worrying about what other people say even though you
