Is oak hardwood poisonous to birds? - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Trevor
Hello,

For the past couple of weeks I've been trying to figure out if oak
hardwood is poisonous to birds and in that time I have gotten all
kinds of different information. First I went to a local pet store and
noticed that oak was used on some of the bird toys. Then I talked
with a veterinarian (which I would consider professional advice) and
he told me that oak was not poisonous to birds. Then I went to
www.peteducation.com and read that oak was highly poisonous and it can
cause diarrea, anorexia and other things. Since then I have talked to
several people who stated that they used oak all the time for their
birds and was quite shocked that I thought it was poisonous. So I am
still confused. I know that the foliage and the acorns are poisonous
but is the wood itself?

Thank you,

Trevor
