Interesting nutritional analysis. Higher in protein than Soya,
high in lysine, all the essential amino-acids & vits. No
trypsin/chymotrypsin inhibitors or natural oestrogen like
soya has. No harmful alkaloids and only 10% fat.
If this is all for real, it should make the best base for hand rearing
and maintenance diets we've seen yet.

YIKES, look at that protein level! About double what many species (and as
high as 8 times for some) need...their poor kidneys!

You don't really expect anyone to feed it as an exclusive diet, do you?
Read my post again, I said a BASE for H/R and maintenance diet.
Naturally it would have to be mixed with other ingredients.
10% fat is too high as well, for anything other than Macaws or Capes.

What is the point of using this as a 'base' for hand rearing formulas? What
is wrong with simply using a hand rearing formula on its own?

You wouldn't be expected to know but most h/r formulas have a protein
percentage of between 17 and 20% and that is usually soya protein,
which leaves much to be desired. It is not easy to find a base staple
with anywhere near the analysis claimed for this bean/pea.
Aviplus in S.Africa are conducting a nutrititional analysis on lupins
right now but then they are not as bright as you, are they now?
Put a sock in it OM. You only show up your own ignorance when you
go off at the mouth, just for effect, like you are doing at present.
I don't have the time or the inclination to mix my own H/r formula,
so naturally I do use a proprietary brand and will continue to do so.
I don't keep any babies reared on oestrogen loaded soya protein,
back for breeding, because I believe that to be one of the prime
reasons for them making poor breeders in the first instance.
My post was meant to be informative. If you are not able to accept
this without becoming confrontational, then kindly refrain from
replying to anything I post in the future.

Between you and OM, you add new meaning to the phrase
' menopausal knee jerk response'. The two of you are so
predictable in your replies, you are becoming boring.
I guess it didn't occur to either of you that existing proprietary brands
of H/R formula might be improved by using a better source of protein
and amino acids as THEIR base.

Whether it occured to me or not, if I asked a question about a subject with
which you are familiar and I'm not, I don't know why it would be labelled
confrontational...and not sure what the state of my hormones has to do with
anything anyway - but thanks for the link at any rate, it was interesting.
And thanks for the comparison to OldMolly, I'm honored :).

You could have fooled me. does this look like a non-confrontational

Since I had a 'run in' with OM (and to a lesser extent you) some time back,
both of
you have gone out of your way to come up with smartass remarks each time I
post a message to the list. Neither of you are anywhere near as smart as you
think you are and I am becoming just a little ' gatvol' with the whole
situation.
Little wonder OM couldn't make any of her multiple marriages work out. It
would
have taken a saint to put up with her c#*p for any longer than 12 hours at
a stretch.
As for you. If you are not familiar with a subject, I suggest you tone down
the
nature of your comments and make those questions look like questions.
That is what question marks were intended to be used for. An exclamation
mark
is something totally different and it is far enough away from the query, not
to have
been taken for an innocuous typo.

I have read some articles about lupin and its use in different farm animals.
It sounds almost too good to be true. Would you happen to have heard of its
use in feed for hair goats? I know S. Africa produces some outstanding
angora goats.

Owly is *still* a nice sweet lady. And so am I.

I simply asked a question as I could not understand why anyone would muck
about with a successful formular.
In real life do you simply expect people to assume that you are correct in
all things and never question you?

It has long been known that hand reared birds do not make good breeders but
not because of what they have been fed, rather because they are more bonded
to humans than others of t heir species. And there has been scientific doubt
placed upon the type and amount of oestrogen in soya in recent years. This I
know because I am going through the menopause and because I am not happy
with the cruelty involved in the production of premarin, I needed to look at
alternatives. Soya was one I looked at and discarded.

But the whole point about information is that people will want to question
things and have points clarified, not simply accept every worth in blind
faith. I think you are rather arrogant to expect us to do so.I will reply to
your posts as I see fit I'm afraid. You might be a control freak in real
life but it means bugger all to me chum.

Lawrence Lumley (Vox) has always been an ass. Google him sometime and
you'll see what I mean.

As a third party observer, I'd say you're over reacting and just
looking for a reason to jump on Owly and/or OM. Your posts are very
confrontational. But then, maybe I'm part of the conspiracy too. ;)

I see you still insist that I am LL. I have met him and I wish I had half
his
bird smarts. Any breeder who can visually sex his baby Greys BEFORE he rings
them at 10-11 days old and gets it right, deserves my respect.. It has
something
to do with how the pigment in the skin develops over the first 10 days. (he
rings
the hens on the left leg and the cocks on the right). LL knows his birds
backwards,
I can assure you, he is anything but an ass.
I notice you also have problems in maintaining happy conjugal
relationships, but
naturally not your fault at all. Hmmm??---Is there a pattern developing
here???

They have been used as fodder for generations here but mostly in silage.
I don't think the nutritional value has been fully appreciated before.
Lupins have always been used as a rotational crop to replace nitrogen in
the soil. The treated seed for planting is available on order but trying to
find
untreated fodder seed is not that easy. Most farmers harvest for silage
before the seed pods have ripened. Hopefully all that will change now
and we will be able to buy lupins in the produce stores.
Seed for planting sells at around US$ .50c a Kg (2.2 lbs). So in addition
to it's nutritional value, it is inexpensive too.

You... er, I mean "he" is an ass, as "his" posting history makes abundantly
clear.
I don't give a flip if "he" knows birds upside down and inside out, it
doesn't change the fact that "he" is an ass.

Looks like a "pattern" to me! Yep! Only forty four years married to the
same man - just goes to show I can't maintain a happy relationship. Oh, and
of course it was ALL MY FAULT... I DESERVED all the hitting, spitting and
yelling. WHAT was I THINKING?!

I always think it's funny when idiots like you start throwing out this kind
of crap because you can't think of anything legitimate to respond with.
Blame it on hormones. Blame it on menopause. Blame it on a failed marriage.
Yeah, that's a real intelligent response.
Does this mean you put me in the same category with Owly and oldmolly? I
HOPE SO!!! Strange, I can't think of a single *man* you've treated with
such disrespect.
Hmmm??---Is there a pattern developing here???

Yep, you were just sitting there and he came along and spat at you, then

Hehehe, see I am going crazy!! it's probably the worry over Poppet!!
You're welcome Mama, I did just post something else asking You and Herman to
quit the arguing!! I know I've got a cheek!! ;-) I did post somewhere that
Poppet is a bit out-of-sorts this evening, She's probably pretty confused as
to what's happened to her over the past 6 days, that's the problem you can
explain it to a child, but I'm pretty sure she knows that she is LOVED
soooooo much, she's pretty unsteady still sometimes, but that's likely to be
the fluid pressure on her brain which will take some time to reduce back to
normal.

Just hold on a moment lady? How do you know that DC did not treat the bird.
CTS is not a problem affecting the whole foot either. It affects a single
digit.

Why is it that whenever you paint yourself into a corner, you bring up this
Lumley
character? I have not had the pleasure of meeting him, but I admire the
lasting
indelible impression he seems to have made on your excuse for a brain.

Yes, I met him in July or August when he gave an informal talk at
a bird club meeting. A very nice person who does not put on airs.
Very helpful and doesn't mind sharing his experience.
he has an extremely sharp wit too.
I discussed RPB with him and he said I was wasting my time here
and that the real meat was in the moderated lists, not on usenet.
You've grabbed the bull by the udder with the posts you quoted. The
fight I had with DC. was all about grit and took place some months
before that.
Do some more googling but don't forget to take your depression meds

Aha. <penny drops>
I know a couple of south african chaps living over here, and they all have
one thing in common. They are ugly sods, mostly little men, and think they
are gods gift to women. Us English gals take the pee out of them and their
overbearing ways. I think they mostly are sexually frustrated because no
woman will bother with them, and they are secretely terrified of the
confidence we divorced women display and the utter lack of awe we show for
you neanderthal blokes.

Odd how you seem to grasp at this detail. You did for me too. Almost as
though any woman smart enough to dump an abusive partner is a threat to your
manhood. I bet you are a woman hater, either that or an abuser too.Well
bumbrain, I am crap at picking men. More than 4 men in my life have wanted
to marry me. I was daft enough to believe them when they said they would
love me, cherish me and stay faithful. They didn't so I left. Dunno why this
bothers you but it seems to. Were you recently dumped?? Can't say I blame

No, not dumped, I was married in 1964 and lost my wife in 1998. I am not
an abuser of anything other than the odd bit of verbal abuse in response
to the nonsense one has to endure on usenet. Threats to my manhood
are like water off a duck's back now. I have 3 grown sons who have families
of their own and who are all successful businessmen. There is nothing
more for me to prove. One wife was enough for me, I still enjoy the
company of women and could remarry tomorrow if I so desired. There are
plenty of willing widows and divorcees around.
Your unhappy relationships don't bother me in the least. I just made the
casual observation that you might have more reason than most to display
your seemingly abnormal dislike of the opposite sex, which you have taken
great pains to make known, to all and sundry and at every possible
opportunity.
You do have an unusually vivid imagination !!

I spent 2 years touring the UK and Europe, 1960/1961. I had a flat in Earls
Court which I used as a base. Strange how experiences differ, I found the
English girls to be pushovers, by far the easiest and with the lowest morals
in all of Europe.

Oh, so you're one of those people who believe the victim is at fault for
the abuse they have to endure. We women deserve what we get, right? That
speaks volumes about YOUR 'attitude.'

****--- you never stop trying, do you?
Blue and yellow lupins contain alkaloids which were thought to be toxic.
It was found that the so called ' lupin toxicosis' was in fact caused by
mycotoxins excreted by a mould fungus which grows on these varieties
when not properly stored.
The lupins we were all discussing are SWEET WHITE LUPINS.
Now take both feet out of your mouth, look at the web page I quoted,
READ it thoroughly then do a search on lupins and you will find all
that I have quoted above.

If you admire "him" so much why ARE you wasting your time here instead of
taking "his" expert advice?
What lists did "he" recommend? Maybe some of here would like to join and
say Hi to ol' Larry....

In Jan. of this year, in fact. After reading that and a few other gems of
yours I realized you argue with virtually everybody... but still, you do
have a tendency to treat women like **** more than men.
BTW - Bulls don't have udders.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, my friend. Doug's intolerance
is mainly directed towards "wimmin folk." I've been the recipient of his
unjustified tirades on many occasions so I must be one of those stupid
people.
I have no respect for the man. I'll just leave it at that.

I realize you're new here, Ian, so you're not used to the bickering that's
inevitable when this many people, with differing opinions, "discuss" bird
issues. Don't take it to heart... it's quite normal in all news groups.
Actually, this one is mild compared to some!

Anyway, I've already said I'm finished with the "discussion" Herman and I

Well, considering how sick the little thing has been it's not surprising
that it's taking awhile for her to get back to normal. And aside from the
illness, the stress from vet visits and treatments must take a heavy toll
as well.
It's a miracle she pulled through at all... she must be a fighter! (and
VERY lucky to have a family who obviously loves her very much! and yes, I
believe she KNOWS she's loved.)
