....Or, at least you'ld *think* so! I bought him a brand-spanking new Bouda
rope perch today and you'ld think it was a snake by the way he acted! LOL
But, all it took was for him to see Mollie walking on it and now he's
hoppin' and boppin' all over it!
I've also found a cheap toy for him. A molted cockatiel feather! I just
clip it in his cage and it keeps him entertained for hours! After all his
vet bills, this inexpensive entertainment is gladly welcomed!!

I bought those for some of my birds. Thought they'd go freaky but they took
to them pretty quickly. It was funny watching them walk on them the first
couple of hours till they got used to the feel of them. It looked like they
were walking on hot asphalt.
Tell Mollie to keep her tootsies off Mac's property! lol

I don't need to. Maccie already did that! LOL. I'm sure it's the only
reason he decided to use it...to keep the other two off!!!

My Barney Yellow Nape, who will perch on my hand but will not be
touched,
holds a dropped flight feather by the wide end and uses the quill to

I'm afraid of those--ditto toys that contain rope or those
shredded/frayed rope pieces, I'm afraid of them getting their toenails
caught.

LOL, sounds like Max my BCC. He is scared TO DEATH of anything new. If I put
up a new perch or toy it's days before he will go near it. He is just SURE
whatever it is eats green birds.

That reminds me
I once got reamed by a breeder at a bird fair for giving a bird a feather to
play with. There were three baby BFAs, one of which lost a feather, but one
of them found it and was holding it in one foot preening it. He dropped it
so I picked it up and gave it back to him. This lady saw me hand him the
feather and flew across two tables to pull it out of his grasp. She yelled
at me for a few minutes about how that causes feather plucking. She wasn't
even the breeder this bird belonged to. She tried to out bitch me. She
lost big time.
Anyway, four years later, Oscar my bfa still likes preening dropped
feathers.

ROTF!! Sounds like we got chickens!! I just came home with a brand new
cage for Mac tonight. Got the old one from my BIL and although it's big,
it's old and cruddy looking and hard to clean. Mac completely hated the new
one and wouldn't go near it, kept trying to bunk in with the tiels tonight
rather than sleep in his new cage. The guy even threw in a really nice
wood/rope swing but I ended up having to put the old one in and set it up
pretty much like his old cage in order to get him in it. The poor little
chicken-****!

LOL, those ingrates, you buy'em a new big house and they don't want to move
in!!! <G> A year or so ago I got the idea to make a stand for Max and Rickie
to be able to sit in front of the living room window. Made a stand, and a
bridge we could set down during the day, and raise at night so we could
close the curtains. As soon as I was done Max cowered at the opposite side
of his cage as far away from it as he could get. After a few days though of
him watching Rickie on it he finally tried it. Now they both spend most of
the day on it watching the world. I'm sure Mac will love his big cage, just
takes time. Funny the difference, Rickie and Charlie both are more like a
cat. Put something new that they can see and they want to go check it out.

universe but is affraid of anything new! It's been nearly six months since
Jim bought me the red belly and she has *finally* stopped chasing it around!

I must be lucky. I just get the new cage, transfer the toys and perches,
and put the bird in. I swap birds and cages regularly and nobody ever seems
to mind at all.

Late response but:
I've never had a problem either. Sometimes I think people just read way too
much into their birds behaviors.

I'd maybe agree with you, but when he refuses to go in the cage, or once
he's in he's cowering in the corner, I'd say he had a problem with it.

Steve,
From my own experience I'd have to agree with ya, but then again no two
birds are the same. And just because some people have managed to change their
birds cages without problem doesn't mean that everyone can do so. And the
advice to set-up the new cage along side the old cage so as to make the
transition to the new cage.

The real problem is people get a bird or two, then think "well now I know
how ALL birds act". Not quite the way it works. Birds tend to be very
individual, even in the same species (see that? <G>), just because my BCC is
terrified by anything "new" does not make me think I know how everyone's BCC
will / should react to things.
