Motel 6 dog commercial - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Cate
Anyone seen this? I thought of rpdb last night when I saw it.

Guy walks up to the check-in desk while the narrator is talking about how
all Motel 6 locations take dogs. Suddenly you see a paw come up from under
the desk and poke the guy on the shoulder. Then the narrator says 'He likes
staying here so much he insists on paying himself.' And the paw comes over
the counter with a credit card between its toes.

So I guess it's safe to say all Motel 6 locations take dogs.

Indeed they do so long as they are under 20 lbs. That
is what I have been told by most of them when checking.
That means none of my crew can stay there. Often
they will allow dogs if you tell them they will be kept
in crate but that is strictly up to the manager. So if
you book using 1-800# you are likely to be told
of the under 20 lbs rule. Or at least that is how
the ones in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado are.

Obviously none of yours--except that darling Reznor--can be fudged to be
anywhere close to 20 pounds (although see Suja's link for different
language), but I've been known to fudge Orson's weight in the face of a
50-pound limit.

Thanks Suja,
I just did a check on hotels in San Antonio, Texas. We
have sort of wanted to stay on "river walk" for a night.
I am not a big fan of San Antonio though, but it can be
fun on the river walk for one night. Anyway NO
motel 6 listed in San Antonio, but several Best Westerns
as I have mentioned previously.

See:

Yes indeed Reznor could be fudged. In fact because he will always
appear somewhat small to the inexperienced eye it will be easy. Clovis
can easily be viewed as under 50 lbs, even though she does weigh
54 lbs.

But Blade looks bigger to some and smaller to others. Obviously
he is over 70 lbs.

Though I much prefer to stick to their rules. If they don't want
my dog I can find somewhere else that will take them. It's
fairly simple since I am the customer.

I have done another search on link Suja gave. BTW Suja
thanks again. I need to bookmark that one. But again
I checked two locations in Colorado(my most favoritest
state of all) and neither locations, ie Estes Park and Durango
had Motel 6. Durango had one of two Best Western locations.
Again I have a hunch this falls into demographic locations?

Hmm. I've stayed in Motel 6's several times at away agility trials, and
both Bren and Morag are *well* over 20 lbs.

And more than once, while traveling, I've called a motel and, *after*
asking about availability of rooms and rates, mentioned that I have dogs
with me. Several privately owned motels, with general no-dog policies or
small-dog-only policies, were willing to let us stay there after I explained
that my dogs are show dogs- IOW well-trained dogs who are seasoned
travelers, accustomed to staying in motels and behaving. I also assure the
motel owners that I won't leave the dogs unattended in the room, I have
cleanup bags and will pick up after them, and I have my own bedspread to
cover and protect the motel's bed.

Of course, all of those things are *true*- I wouldn't say it if I didn't
know that I can back all of it up.

But have you traveled to Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and stayed
in a Motel 6? Now often if there is a trial, the person in charge will
or can prearrange. I have seen this with Schutzhund trials. But most
of the time Motel 6 around here will not take dogs over 20 lbs.

Call them and ask. Especially for a Texas booking. Ask specifically
about is there a weight limit? Something that a person like me who
prefers to follow hotel rules is concerned about. Last thing I want
is for my anxiety, country dog to be thrown out in the middle of
the night because of the weight limitations because he is barking
at all the people coming and going all night long. We have managed
to get him to settle as long as there isn't a crowd hanging outside
or room. Which did occur in New Mexico several years ago.

Remember Blade has been raised in rural area with very little noise
as our house is last house at the end of dead end road. Thus
no cars, no people no nothing passing by, especially at 2:00-3:00 am.

I was listening to car talk one day, and click and clack were talking to a
woman in texas who did something to fix her car by pouring dr. pepper
somewhere (maybe it was cleaning the acid off a battery or something). C&C
noted how they immediately know when texans talk about cola they most of the
time mean Dr. Pepper. Ever since then I've been tuned to the idea, and while
not always correct, most of the time it is.

I'm not at all sure why any of this is. Maybe its a post for AFU...

To take this even further off topic, you can use most Cola's (Coke, Pepsi)
to clean your toilet. Just pour it in, and the acid in the pop will clean
the enamel in your toilet.

You just let it sit. As for the length of time, I am not sure. A while. I
found out about this when I was cleaning out the fridge once and had a flat
bottle of pop. I poured it down the toilet, and it wasn't enough to trip
the flush cycle, and I didn't realize it. The next time I went back, it was
cleaner. Caution: The caramel syrup and coloring may stain at the water

Hubby prefers plain coke.

Really? Better than bleach or baking soda? Though it seems rather
expensive way to clean toilet. Then again I bet it *may* be safer
for septic systems? Then again it could be a coke would eat

I discovered the other night that if there's something worse than soda, it is
diet soda. Wonderful pot luck evening. Great fun with quilters as we admire
each others' work, talk, laugh, eat. Dinner was hours ago. I was thirsty so I
helped myself to the soda on the buffet counter. I don't normally like soda,
but the alternative was the wine that I'd had with dinner or asking my hostess
for something special. And I have been known to like root beer on occasion. I
drank the stuff completely unable to figure out why it tasted so wrong. Finally
figured it out. Diet. Chemical taste in the back of my throat didn't leave for
24 hours later. It doesn't poison me in the sense of giving symptoms, but I
can't figure out why people buy that stuff on purpose.

I rarely drink soda (my skin is too reactive......dammit), but when I
do, I prefer Diet to regular. Maybe its just cuz I always drank diet in
H.S. when I drank more soda, but regular makes me gag. Its *way* too
syrupy sweet for me. bleh.

My FIL goes through the stuff by the case. He has for years, as far as I can
tell. We have to buy diet coke (preferably caffiene free) whenever they come
to town, and I probably have some left over from the last time (maybe I can
use *that* to clean the darn toilet).

I agree with you about the chemical taste. Blech. DW is alergic to Aspartame
(it gives her noxious headaches) and can't handle the stuff. Me, I just don't
like the taste (and I don't think it comes close to the original).

I used to. You get used to it and then sugar ones taste rather
weird. But then I read things about those diet drinks and decided
I just don't need to consume much period so why.

So once again I can't stand the taste of the diet drinks.

I would guess some house-cleaning newsgroup of some sort.

I mean, there is no doubt in my mind that the phosphoric acid would
clean it, it is just whether the caramel syrup would stain it. I wonder
if 7-up or sprite contain phosphoric acid...

Lets see - Sprite has Citric Acid, which is not as strong as phosphoric
acid.

I can't find 7 up. I would guess it also has citric acid in there.

You could try vinegar. It has acetic acid in there, which is not as
strong an acid as citric, but is cheaper. Neither of them are as strong
as phosphoric acid though.

Bingo! Lots of things will clean toilets. If you have Coke leftover from a
party when you don't care to drink it, then it is a cheap toilet cleaner. If
you're going to the store looking for toilet cleaner, then you're better off
buying a product made for that purpose.

Hey I tried to book in Raton, New Mexico when we took Blade 2 years ago to
Colorado. Our friends staying in the Motel 6 there. They told me unless the
dog was under 20 lbs.

Thank you Robin for providing me with this information. I will definitely
keep this in mind for future traveling with dawgs. LOL Which will certainly
be occurring soon enough. Though once I get to where I am going, ie destination

I prefer cabins and such as that as they often have hot tubs and other
amenities
that I want for vacationing.

breed that is suppose to not exceed 89 lbs?

Indeed, but I just contacted their 1-800# and the gentleman informed
me that it depends on each location and their management and how they
want to handle weight/allowable poundage. He told it definitely depends
on the individual properties and that one must contact each property to
find out their specific rules.

So in other words while Motel 6 does allow animals it does depend
on each location what weight of animal they will allow to stay.

OMG! I was going to post about my only motel 6 (or Super 8....can't
remember which) experience, but I couldn't remember the name of the town
in NM.

And this was it!

In college, a friend and I decided to hitchhike to NM from Colorado
Springs just for the hell of it. We started out early one morning and
hooked a ride straight down I25 with some really nice people who were
going just past the Co. state line. As we drove south, the temperature
suddenly dropped (as it tends to do there). We were in the back of the
truck (open flatbed) getting colder and colder. By the time we hit Raton
it was a full blown blizzard.

I wanted to hunker for a few hours and keep going, but my buddy wanted
to stop, stay in a motel and head home (chicken!).

So we stayed at the local motel. Like I said, I can't remember if it was
Motel 6 or Super 8 (I think it was the Super 8).

Wow....I can't believe you've been there. I found it a pretty depressing
place, but that was in the late 80's. Maybe its changed. Really awesome
people though.

Yes, but that was two years ago!! Their official pets policy has been in
effect for about a year I think, but before that individual Motel 6s usually
took pets.

I don't care for the new Motel 6s much--the rooms are teeny tiny, with one
bed against the front window wall and the other against the bathroom wall.
Ugh. But older ones are great, especially if you find one with grass
nearby.

Then might as well stick with the real thing. Actually, I don't mind the
FF Coffee Mate, but Half and Half is truly superior. And it has no

Ever try FF Half and Half? Makes no sense and tastes *awful*. I don't

But even on cereal its nasty. Looks like a bowl of the stuff that's
leftover after doing the dishes, complete with chunks. (enjoy THAT image

some places will say "small dogs only"
Now MY idea of a "small dog" is something like a miniature poodle.
But when I ask, the person will say something like "under 100 pounds"!
Or sometimes "under 50 pounds"..

OTOH, there are those places that DO allow dogs, but charge extra.
I don't mind a refundable deposit, since I know I'll always get it
back. But some places will charge a nonrefundable deposit, or charge
an extra $10/pet per day.

LaQuinta is one that annoys me... they make a big deal about their
"pets allowed" policy... but it seems they are strict about the "under
20 pounds" rule. And they usually charge more, too.

Yum. Me too. I'd rather have chocolate Silk than chocolate milk. The
best pancakes I've ever had were made with plain Silk. Perfect texture,
and wonderful flavor. Quite a compliment coming from me, as I don't
normally care for pancakes.

Okay, so I'm weird. <G> I liked it the very first time I tried it. I
like all three, chocolate, vanilla, and plain. I love dairy products,
DH calls me the 'Dairy Queen.' But I prefer soy milk over regular.

We do. My coke clearly has caffeine in it. I can tell by the twitchiness in
my eyes after drinking a dozen cans or so.

I'm on the record as disliking all sodas. Especially vile Mountain Dew
stuff that tastes like glorified cough syrup. And OJ. And milk.

That's kind of like me and oranges. I like practically everything
orange, except for OJ. Unless I squeeze it myself.

As for soy milk, I think that its association with milk tainted it for
me. Can't stand milk - soy, rice or the real thing.

That's because *nothing* tastes like fresh squeezed. Not matter who
packages it, how it's processed, or how much they charge for it, it's
not the same.
