I'm the "new kid on the block" here, I asked about the bird that someone
brought to the vet & dumped. Just an update, one of the vets walked in
today & knew exactly what the bird is (ringneck) (female) so alot of you
were right! Anyway, she fell in love with it. This practice dosent see
"exotics" but she has pet birds. So I told her to keep it. I did some
reading up on it & it seems this bird needs alot of interaction &
"quality time". My lifestyle at this time wont allow that. As much as I
wanted that beautiful bird, I didnt want it to
be miserable in my house.
Now for the cat/cockatiel question, that I am an expert in. I have cats,
ferrets, birds & dogs & hamsters. I have all indoor cats. I have a
cockatoo (umbrella) that has set the cats straight about who the boss
is. Still I would never leave the room with the bird loose with the
cats. She (the bird) is in the living room.
My cockatiel & canary are in a bedroom with the hamsters with the door
SHUT. ALWAYS. Its off limits to cats. Just to be safe...
I had a conure that was walking around one day & I had forgotten I had
one ferret out. Needless to say, my ferret did a job on the conure. I'll
never forget the screams. I had to pull a dresser out to get under it &
separate them & pry the ferrets jaws off. I rushed the conure to the vet
where thank God he lived & did very well! He had puncture wounds on the
head & chest area was shaken up but seemed to be back to normal in a
few hours!
Well, I went on long enough.... In short, I would never, ever leave my
cats with my small birds (or hamsters-lol)
