I hope someone can help! My friend works at a vet hospital (that dosent
see birds!) and someone left a bird in a carrier at their doorstep!
Theyre keeping it there to see if anyone claims it, if not, its mine. I
have an umbrella cockatoo, cockatiel & canary. What need t know is, WHAT
KIND OF BIRD IS THIS????
LOL!
Its lime green, conure sized, parrot beaked, small eyes, long pointed
parakeet-type tail. I think the features are more parakeet-ish, between
the tail & eyes, but it makes conure sounds (we havent heard the
screaming, just mumbling) Its got a little yellow on the wings (very
faint, underneath) pinkish colored beak with some black on it. Its
eating parrot food, likes chicken, cheese, Kix cereal, romaine lettuce.
The vets, what they know is it seems to be kind of thin, fecal sample
was neg. But its eating well since i got there (today) Anyone have any
ideas????
Also how long should I keep it away from the birds I have now to make
sure its healthy??

Sounds like a parrotlet?? Except the tail length. How tall is it? My
parrotlet is around 4cm and he weights 30 grams. They do make parrotlike
noises and have pointed tail feathers but have short tails. Are you able to
get a picture of him/her? You can email it to me if you would like.
Quarentine him/her for 30-45 days from your birds.
Probably for the best that the person gave him/her up.

Sounds like a female ringneck parakeet (otherwise you would have noticed the
ring)
For quarantine, If you give it doxycycline in it's water, 45 days should be
enough
but that will only cover bacterial diseases. Virus caused diseases are
another story.
There the rule is 'the longer the better'. If you have the $, you can do
bloodwork and
test for PBFD etc. It is really up to you to decide.

Sounds like a ring neck parakeet or a relative. Try this site from the
Lexicon of Parrots
http://www.arndt-verlag.com/projekt...rch=ri&Lang=eng
They call it a rose-ringed parakeet.

You have internet acess - search around. Try http://www.arndt-verlag.com/
or do a search at http://www.google.com
My guesses as to possibilities though are - quaker (monk) parakeet, indian
ringneck parakeet, green conure, hahn's macaw, noble macaw, white-eyed
conure.

But you couldn't resist reading my post.
If you have me blocked, how can you know what I contribute?
Are you even sure that you have a parrotlet? It could be an eclectus as far
as you know.
