I realize each bird has its own personality, and it's not good to talk
in generalities, but does anyone here have Bourkes and Budgies in the
same birdroom? I have 2 budgies, one is an English budgie who is
tame and lives in a cage with the door open all the time; he's free to
come and go as he pleases, although he tends to be a cage potato.
The second is a budgie I found 3 months ago on my front lawn...around
3 years old, sweet, not tame, is allowed out of the cage a few hours a
day, spending most his out time in the English budgie's cage. He is
tolerated, to say the least, as long as he doesn't overstay his
welcome.
I have the chance to get a very tame, young Bourke. She would have
her own cage, but I'd like to be able to give her free reign of the
bird room, as she is very use to free flight, rarely spends time in a
cage. Do any of you have anecdotal evidence that she could be
accepted by the budgies, and vice versa?
Of course I would monitor the situation to make sure it's safe. I'm
just looking for other Bourke/Budgie owners who have seen these
different birds get along in a "community" setting. Thank you very

Go for it. I have kept budgies, tiels, Bourkes, and other grass
parakeets in the same flight room for 10 years with no problem.
I wouldn't cage them together because budgies would dominate
the food sources, but in a flight, I have not seen any problems
at all. So I feel that letting your birds out at the same time
is not a problem. Bourkes are wonderful, sweet birds. Enjoy!
