We have a quaker, and he is quite loud ... he picks up words very quickly
however! I'm not overly familliar with them, and Kiwi was kind of a
spur-of-the-moment purchase (about 2 years old, in a pet-shop that was
closing). We have a cat who meows constantly, and now we also have a Quaker who
meows constantly :) He's a sweet bird, likes to give kisses, and loves to have
his head skritched.

We also have a Solomon Island Eclectus, who happens to be the queen of the
house. I definately wouldn't reccommend an ekkie for a first time bird owner,
(although she was our first, not counting the budgies) unless you're willing to
spend a whole LOT of time with it. She loves to cuddle, (which is rare with an
ekkie), and loves to coo and caw along with music too! :)

(sorry for the choppyness of this message, I'm going on 30 hours without sleep
:) )

Mike

my Quaker, Lucky, would sleep with you if you let him. this can be
a problem w/parrots in general, anyone here see the "Farside" cartoon
with the obese lady hanging a poster for her lost toy poodle? the
lady was facing away toward the poster and the dog was wedged into her
dress up the cheeks of her ass.

Lucky was fearless (afa birds go) and loved it when i grabbed his
feet between my fingers, made a fist and then swung him in a circle
like a softball pitcher. he would flap his wings a scream with
delight. great little monster. --Loren

I can't speak about the other birds, but I can only tell you what a loveable
and intelligent bird my hand-raised LB is. He's not terribly noisy
(although when he hears the car in the driveway he perks up, if your bird
hears your voice in the apartment hallway, he may start calling for you..)
most of the time he just talks to himself. He can learn new tricks, but he
has to teach them himself!! I tried for I don't know how long to get him to
manipulate toys, only to find out that he discovers and manipulates toys
according to HIS perceptions...i.e., he throws pop cans off the counter, and
drops bottle caps in my coffee cup. And my hand-raised LB was only $65,
which doesn't mean he's less valuable, just more affordable...

YMMV
