Hi: This subject has probably been covered before, but one of our female
budgies seems to have a vitamin D deficiency. Our avian vet gave her a D shot
and suggested a full pellet diet. I add pellets to their food now, but clearly
it's not enough. Can anyone give me some more suggestions about adding more D
to to all our budgies' diets? Thanks for your help. Mary

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, that is required for the absorption of
calcium and phosphorus.Vit. D requires conversion by the liver and kidneys.
Your bird may have other problems, if he is not utilizing this vitamin
properly. It is important to take calcium when taking Vit. D. Too much Vit. D
can be toxic. Vit. D is called the "Sunshine Vitamin," because the ultra violet
rays of the sun, help the body to convert Vit D. Some good food sources are
dandelion greens, egg yolk, alfalfa, sweet potatoes, parsley, and oatmeal.
