Mexican jumping beans are cool! I used to buy little boxes of
them for a dollar in Las Vegas at the convenience store, but
strangely, now that I live on the Mexican border I can't find
them.

When I was about 5 my favorite book was a story about Mexican
jumping beans, I even memorized the whole thing. In fact, I
still have the book somewhere. It was about a woman who went
to the store to buy beans to cook for dinner. The clerk
sells her some, but she is suspicious and says they look like
they may be Mexican jumping beans. The clerk assures her
they are regular beans. She takes them home and puts them in
a pot of water to soak. She goes about her housework and
the beans proceed to jump all over the kitchen. She hears the
commotion and rushes to the kitchen only to find the beans
sitting quietly in the pot. This happens several times until
finally she sneaks up on them and catches them in the act.
She tries to take them back to the store but they escape and
jump all the way back to Mexico.
