jumpingmouse & kylie
I went over to her cage this morning and she squeaked when I kissed her good
morning on the nose ;-) to wake her up. She's been out playing all morning,
pulling shenanigans that are unbelievable as if to say "see, mommy, I'm all
the ferret anyone could ever need and I LOVE being the only child!!!!" She
has been right on top of me every second (if not in my arms, then running
circles around me or whatever I'm doing at the time), sooo affectionate,
well behaved, absolutely goofy (no other way to describe some of the crazy
little things she's been doing) and going 90mph for hours. I finally
scooped her up, kissed her goodnight and put her in for a nap so I can get
something done around here. I think she knows she won. I'm just glad to
see that she is happy again. Guess I'm a pushover, but that little girl is
everything to me.

Ya know what? There is nothing wrong with being the only child. Wylie was
blessed that his family wanted him back. I just hope the keep wanting him.

jumpingmouse & kylie
I agree completely Ruth. I had no qualms whatsoever taking Wylie back to
his mommy and daddy - in fact they met me halfway because they were so
anxious to get him! He had a huge, immaculate cage, toys galore, a
completely spoiled little guy and when I called his mommy and told her that
it didn't seem to be working out very well, she started crying and said she
hadn't slept the night before thinking she had made a big mistake by giving
him up and didn't have the heart to call me and ask for him back, but didn't
know what to do. So, yes, I believe it did really work out the best for
everyone. Wylie's mommy and daddy still believe he needs a cagemate or two,
so they planned to take him to pick out a brother or two today, so
hopefully by this evening he's all snuggled up with his new sibling(s) and
is just as happy as Kylie is. He was a precious little guy and I'm sure
they will continue to spoil him rotten. I guess that's one of the reasons
it wasn't hard at all to let him go back. Now that I know Kylie really is
completely happy as an only child, my heart can be at rest too.

J, you've put all your eggs in one proverbial basket. If you've
decided she's your last I understand. If you plan on owning others I
strongly urge you to reconsider finding her a bud (or budette?).

Can't take two now, maybe one...

SO true. I've tried playing with mine like they play with each other, but it
just can't be done. They are so fast and agile, and humans are slow and
stiff in comparison. It would just about take a high speed camera to capture
their action sometimes.

jumpingmouse & kylie
I understand what you're saying, Swamp, but at least for 'this' generations
of ferrets in my house, it looks like it's going to be a single one. I had
three together before and i understand the importance of
siblings......that's why I wanted to try, even tho I had no real reason to
believe it would work. Kylie, as sweet as she is, is sooo terribly spoiled
and mommy-oriented as a result of her life before she got to me, i don't
know that she could change without upsetting her stability. She has turned
out exceptionally well considering what we began with and since everyone is
happy, I guess there's no reason to change. I know there will come a day
that will devastate me.......but that's what happened when all three of my
boys died so close together too. I just need to go ahead and enjoy today
and spend every minute i can loving her and spoiling her. she's quite a
remarkable little girl and that i woudln't change for the world. Thanks so
much for your wise concern.......but i think for now the solution is to let
her be princess of my heart and just enjoy it. She gets hours and hours of
one on one attention every day, back and head scratches, wrestles with
stuffed animals, ball chasing, rough and tumble wrestling, chasing thru
tubes, hugs, kisses and cuddling, so she's not missing toooo much. If her
demeanor changes sometime in the future i would be open to adding a little
playmate for her.
