They are both sleeping........whew. It has been a long afternoon. Kylie
absolutely has rebelled about anything fuzzy getting near her mommy. She's
not sure what to do about the whole situation. So far she has tried biting
Wylie, glaring at me, pouting with her back to both of us, having a temper
tantrum with her toys, pooping right in the middle of her blankies then
standing there looking at me as if to say "well, what are you going to do
about THAT?" I have been giving lots of hugs, reassurance and kisses to
both of them, gave them both baths and 'ferretone cologne' ;-) and much
talking to. Wylie seems to be doing wonderfully, but Kylie is absolutely
turnign herself inside out in protest. I'm trying desperately to show her
that mommy has two arms, bunches of kisses, and love to go around. They
will be sleeping in separate cages tonight; maybe we can have better luck
tomorrow after they have some more opportunities to share some fun things.
Biggest problem I can see that probably isn't goign to go away is the
similarities in their names is quite confusing. When I call either, they
both come (or both ignore, whichever the case) and both look quite confused
as to why the other one is responding too ;-)
Wylie couldn't be sweeter. He's a kissy boy, very very well behaved, very
people oriented, quite interactive with his toys and a real little
character. I'm excited to get to know him better. We're soo lucky to have
the opportunity to bring him into our home. Pictures will go up on the
website as soon as I get a chance.
p.s. Sara (the dog) was probably as much or more excited as I was when she
saw Wylie. She loves ferrets soooo much and she knew she had just added
another baby to her family ;-)

so glad to hear that you were able to get him. I am afraid to get wilson teh
spoiled brat another mate for the same reason. i let him sniff another
ferret at the vets office he sniffed once, then went to bit the other ones
nose off.... so i think he likes his run of the town thing
best wishes

Yup, that's about what I'm dealing with here, but I'm hoping that she will
see the positive side of having a playmate to share things with. There's a
part of me that thinks there's probably no chance it will work.......but I
gotta give it a try anyway.

Uh huh.. stubborn lil guys huh? I don't think I'd attempt getting
another ferret. It was a thought before, but since he has the dog and
cat, he'll be fine!
As for your lil ones, I hope they both come around. Hehe, when and if
they do, then ya gotta deal with the "oh I don't want to show mama she
was right! I'll get along with him when shes not looking.." thing.
Good luck! =)

It may be hard, but give Kylie more attention instead of giving both
equal attention. Wylie will probably amuse himself and be happy
regardless for the most part. You may also want to try giving her some
playtime alone in addition to "together" playtime. (and do bedding
swapping and all of that...)
Good luck.

So, you already have him at your place then? I thought it was just an
introduction first, then you might bring him home. Cool.
As for their names being so similar, we all know that most ferrets don't really
respond to all spoken commands anyway, so I don't think it'll be that big a
problem, except when telling one, "No!" (then they will both "No!").
Is the previous owner going to have visitations? I'm sure she will need that
for a while before she gets used to being without Wylie. But, I'm also sure
that she is confident that she has found the best ferret mom around!
It won't be too long till they are both romping and going nuts, then Kylie will
wonder how she ever got along without Wylie. When I first got Troni, I made
sure that I gave Lectris lots of extra attention, so she wouldn't get a complex
about it. It worked out perfectly.

Congratulations on bringing home, Wylie. :) I don't think it's as bad as
it could be, JM. Kylie isn't showing signs of aggression...just
disapproval. I think once she sees how much fun this boy can be she'll get
over it. She's one smart little girl, and she knows how to manipulate you.
:) I think she figures if she sits down in a protest that that fuzz boy
will go away. It may seem difficult now and you may question whether you
did the right thing, but be patient. I really do think Kylie will come
around. Now if I could just get George and Zoe to accept Stormy I'd be
happy. :)

You see that`s what you get for pampering them.
Over here in Yorkshire they think if they get a pal, they get an extra sleeping
bag to lie next to in winter and double the amount of grub

ROFLOL..........well, last night kylie had a ferret style 'nervous
breakdown' just sitting in the corner of her cage and quivering and
whimpering - I'm sure it was for effect and it was very effective. I'm sooo
confused about what to do. Poor little Wylie is such a sweetheart......he
deserves a better buddy than this I'm afraidl. Will continue to try gently
to get them together, but there is a chance it's just not going to work.

Maybe she'll find out in a few days that Wylie is actually a boy-toy.
She'll find she enjoys bossing him around. And he'll probably think it is
wonderful when she does it.

Well, I sure hope so. I put Ferretone 'cologne' on him with hopes that it

If I were you JM, I would spend less time with both of them for a couple of
day. When Kylie sees that her hystrionics are having no effect, she might
discover just how much fun another ferret is.
I do this with lots of animals here. When I introduce a newbie, there
*could* be problems, but I simply leave them to it (providing no fighting of
course) and when they see that I am not interested, they usually gang up
together to plague me :0)
So spend *less* time with Kylie, not more would be my advice.

I'll add ferrets squabble. That is perfectly normal. Scruff and drag to
establish dominance is normal. Let them go out.
No poop, no blood, no foul.
Let them squabble until they establish their relationship

Thanks Pam........I think you've probably hit the nail on the head about her
histrionics. The cage is right next to my chair and when they are in the
cage I've given them my full attention; when they are out of the cage I've
been watching every move. The past hour or so I just put Kylie in the cage
with Wylie (who was napping). I noticed that she would walk up to sniff
him, then come back and look longingly thru the cage bars at me as if to say
"rescue me, mommy". In the past little while I've moved my chair where I'm
not looking in there and now she's moved away from the bars and laying up on
the second level (not in a bed "poooor me"), but she's also not going thru
all the tantrums. She hasn't had her one-on-one time with me today and I
think I'll skip it and see if that doesn't encourage her to 'find someone
else to play with'..........boy, I hope this works. I had this little boy
out this morning for our one-on-one time and he fell asleep on my chest for
about an hour. They just don't come any sweeter than he is.
Thanks everybody for all the suggestions. I'm willing to try anything - I
really want it to work out..........

Welcome home to Wylie!
Don't worry if they don't hit it off immediately. It took Ariel a couple mos
to warm up to Oberon when we got him. Then, when we got Max, Ariel took to
him right away, but Oberon would literally lay in his cage & cry (tears down
the face & all). I was finally able to put them on the floor together after
about a month, & soon after *that*, they became best buds.
Keep us posted!

Sounds like it has. There's always some jockeying when you introduce
new ferrets. Think I'd start calling them Kay and Wiles, or something
more dissonant, tho.
