The Vet called a little bit ago, Mochi passed away this morning. The
xrays looked fine, they had him on IV, he just went downhill fast.
They are doing an autopsy today, he is very curious as to what
happened. I am still in a bit of shock here, Damn it.

Sorry John, that's horrid news, especially when you thought he was going to
be OK.

Deepest condolences in the loss of your beloved Mochi. *hug* ;o(
Please let us know what the vet finds. It's good that he's interested,
as it could save another ferret on down the line (so, Mochi didn't die
in vain).

Sooo sorry to hear this John. Be sure to give Espresso lots of extra
attention now that he's alone. He's probably hurting as badly as you are.

O Nooo! >>>hugs<<< John. I'm not sure if it's worse when you know they're
very ill or when it's a shock. Either way, it breaks your heart.
So Sorry to hear about little Mochi.

The worst part is that I keep asking myself if I should have taken him
in earlier. But he would have a quiet day, and then the next day he
was bouncing around again. I knew on Tuesday it was time, and made the
appt, but I think I should have brought him in for an emergency visit
Tue night. He would drink, but then paw at his mouth. Heck, he even
pooped and peed at the vets office.
Thanks all of you for your condolences. This group is great for
support. Now I hope we can get Spress's probably adrenal sorted out.

My deepest condolences. Mochi knew he was loved.

Don't. Decide what you'll do in the future. No sense in beating
yourself up over perceived past mistakes.

....and may have died that night, anyway. You never know. Best thing
I've learned is *learn*. What will you do different next time, what
factors would change your course of actions, and why? Sorry to be
clinical, but there's no better diagnostic teacher than living w/ sick
ferrets.

Yep. I'd get pics (x-rays) and bloodwork first and go from there. I'm
going thru the same thing w/ my oldest, minus the companionship issue.

So sorry John, it is a terrible shock. You and your little one are in

You are so right. And living with Cappuccino and his insulinoma for
almost a year was certainly a lesson. One problem is you get used to
how a sick ferret acts, and it becomes almost "normal".
I honestly feel that Mochi never fully recovered from Capster's
illness and passing. He was never the same fun-loving little guy. He
has always been a little "reserved", and had a tendency to get a
little "plump", hence his nickname: Blimpie. : )
Espresso came after Cappy and Mochi were about 2. They were very
close, and although they never shunned Spress, he was still a bit the
outsider. He is a bit different, LOL. You reach down to pick him up,
and he falls over. Even when he looks up at you "Pick me up Dad", he
falls over. His nickname is "Goofy". It fits, he has a split mask,
almost looks like a panda. He is the lover of the 3. He will curl up
in your lap and go to sleep, almost any time. He doesnt seem too
distressed at this point, but I will keep a close eye on him.
Mochi was the softest, mink-est feeling ferret I have ever held. He
was a delight to hold, and you couldnt resist running your cheeks over
his fur. Just a mellow boy, who would never think of hurting anything.
Ok, I am rambling.
Damn I miss those two.
John, Spress, and Skittles the cat.
