black footed ferrets - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Jason and Holly Harper
Ok, I got an email today that went directly to my bulk mail, but anyways...I
just wondered if this was a legit program. Here's the email:

"Dear ferret enthusiast-
The endangered cousin of your favorite animal needs your help! The
black-footed ferret is the only ferret species native to North America and
closely related to your pet ferret. These ferrets live in the grasslands of
the Great Plains states and efforts are underway to ensure their future.

You can help by visiting our website http://www.prairiewildlife.org
and adopting a black-footed ferret! We even have a special offer that
includes a gift for you! The proceeds from ferret adoption will be used to
purchase vaccine and to complete population surveys for free-ranging ferrets
in Wyoming, South Dakota and Mexico.

Our organization, Prairie Wildlife Research, works closely with the
many agencies involved in black-footed ferret recovery and we produce
results that benefit ferrets. So please adopt a black-footed ferret today,
for yourself or a loved one or even for your pet ferret! You will receive a
great adoption kit and the satisfaction of helping an endangered ferret.
With your help someday soon you too can see a black-footed ferret in the
wild! Thank you!

Sincerely,
Travis Livieri
Executive Director
Prairie Wildlife Research

Anybody know whether or not this is legit?

TIA

Holly

I don't know if they're legit or not. There are some legit "adopt a BFF"
programs but again I can't think of their names right now. (and to spell
it out for those who don't know better, you can't really *adopt* a BFF.
It's illegal. What you're really doing is *sponsoring* a BFF.). Whether
or not the group below is legit, I personally wouldn't give money to any
business or organization that spams. Just a major pet peeve of mine.

PS: You could ask to be removed from their mailing list and decide
whether or not to donate in the future based on whether or not they've
respected those wishes 6+ months from now. If they're legit they'll
still be there right?

A side note on the spammers. If you contact them and ask to be removed, you
should be. The problems is, if they are not a real legit or ethical group,
they will sell your "confirmed" e-mail address to someone else.

Thanks, Melissa. That's pretty much my opinion on it as well. I just
wasn't sure if this was a legit group or not. And good point about being
removed from their mailing list. May just have to try that out. :)
