And sometimes they starve themselves... (I believe) some of the
'clever' ones set a 'No Archive' flag in their newsreaders so that
their postings are not archived. And that means they don't show up in
Google! What a blessing :-)
Don't forget you can always killfile them. It takes just a second and
will save you hours of irritation.

That usually works well, as I did it a long time ago.. but it fails when
others continue to respond to *it* because the whole thread shows up,
usually with the killfilled person's note quoted in full in someone elses
note that you have not kill-filed. And when it all happens in the middle of
what had been a legitimate subject, then it's useless. I just do not
understand the need people have to respond to jerks like that. I fully
understand the urge to defend yourself but come on people that is what this
person lives for.. we all know that and if you are being attacked just let
it go. I think most of us are adult enough to consider from *whence it came*
and take it for what it is... nothing worth wasting time over.

But the need to defend oneself is very strong and difficult to
overcome. However, just have to change the way you think about the
attack...
The simple fact is that trolls are immature. Psychologically they NEED
your attention. They are little more than naughty little children who
will do anything to grab your attention. Any psychologist will tell
you that by ignoring them, they'll soon get bored, realise that no
matter how naughty they are they won't attract your attention, and
they will go away.
It's not easy, it takes time, but it works.
This is the method we used when I worked with mental people a few
years ago. It worked a treat.
So, fellow APR-ers, take a deep breath, muster all your resolve, and
prepare to ignore!
