anybody know anything about keeping goldfish? there doesnt seem to be anything on keeping fish.
Carolyn
Hi there,
I am really a dog psychologist but I have kept goldfish before so I'll tell you what I know.
They are a lot easier to keep than tropical fish which I have at the moment. Basically once you have your tank, (cold water), you really could do with a filter as although they are quite hardy it still needs to be kept fairly clean, the size of the filter depends on the size of the tank so your local pet superstore will advise you what you need to know. I found "Viscum" the best place for advice on fish they are brilliant & the fish they sell are great quality. We used to have an under-gravel filter too.
Many places try & sell you alsorts of gadgets but just be satisfied with the essentials.
Dont put your hands in goldfish water if you have cuts or broken skin as the amonia etc can give you nasty illnesses.
Make sure the tubes to the filter have guards on the ends as we forgot to do that & one of our black moors go sucked up & died!
They really are simple to keep & I think a lot nicer than tropical fish. Look our for Oranda's as they are beautiful.
Kind regards
carolyn
