Took Max & Ariel to the vet this morning. Made the appt for Ariel - for some
reason, she's felt *hot* to me recently! No worries, though - her temp was
101.4 when taken by Dr B. All we can figure is, since she *really* blew her
coat this spring (which she's never done before), maybe we're just feeling
her body heat coming through more than usual. Ok - I'll buy that! I freely
admit to being Ultra Paranoid Ferret Mommy when it comes to Ariel, since she
has her heart problem. The slightest thing that looks off, & she goes in.
Besides, Dr B is documenting everything about her, since her heart problem
is completely undocumented in ferrets, & when she's no longer w/ us, he'll
be submitting a paper on her to the medical journals.

Max saw the vet about 1.5 wks ago, for something weird looking on his back
left little toe. A dark-ish, scaly spot, that at first glance looked like
poop that he'd stepped in. Everyone was due for baths, anyway, but the spot
didn't wash off. Dr B did a scraping at that time, & determined it was some
sort of bacterial infection (& not a severe one at that), & prescribed some
Amoxi drops. So I had Dr B look at it again today, & sure enough, there's
absolutely *no change* in the sucker. No better, no worse, just the same.
So, when I bring most of the hoard back in at the end of Sept for their
shots, he'll gas Max down & take a biopsy of the spot & get a more detailed
look at it. It doesn't seem to be bothering Max at all, which is good. In
the meantime, Dr B said to wash the spot every 5-6 days or so, w/......wait
for it......Selsen Blue!

They took pics of the 2 of them for their records, & I rounded them up &
took them home. Snacks, off to their cage, & they crashed in a heap w/
Oberon & Puck - all crammed together in the smallest hammie, of course!

So all in all, not a dramatic vet visit. We'll just see what the shampoo
does to Max's toe, & go from there.

Hope it turns out to be nothing.

Glad Ariel is doing just fine, Lin. But that's weird about Max's toe. Will
be interesting to find out what Dr. B finds when he does the biopsy. I
never would've thought of Selsen Blue though!! Keep us posted!

I know what you mean about those dark spots on back feet - nails and pads.
It seems like Kylie always steps back into a pile when she backs up into the
litterbox - there can be one little pile in the box and she'll find it and
step in it! The good news is that she's really a good sport about getting
her little feet washed at least once or twice a day - she even spreads her
toes for me as I hold her foot underneath the running tap water LOL

Yeah - the Selsen Blue kinda surprised me, too. But, since the spot is dry &
scaly - hey, what harm could it do, eh? At least he won't catch the dreaded
Toe Dandruff!
