Amy, .....( i posted earlier but think it got lost in the drama) I guess I
will ask you since we seem to be only ones talking about ferrets right now.
I had an adult ferret who was stolen around graduation time from an outdoor
condo ..i was washing dishes..and caught a car take off and ferret
gone...She was a sweet calm playful girl..and I adopted her as an adult so
do not have alot of kit experience...since then I have gotten a 4 month old
sable..she was kept in an aquarium in the pet store ..imagine
that..sickasses...I have tried everything recommended and she is still
nipping baddly...aggressively..i can not hold her without a large
construction glove..can not harness her for walks..etc etc..she lovesssssss
to play and plays hide and seek for ever..she talks alot and seem alot
happier..but hates to be touched almost afraid..anything you can tell me to
do as a new option..i know the nipping at young age is expected..but the
nipping is so aggressive it worries me..and I dont want her to miss out on
things like walks, swimming, lovens', and such bc she is hard to handle.
Thanks for any reply.
By the way..2 cute pics...your a great ferret mama..

I know your not talkin to me....but I can tell you when dealing with a
nipper?
Loose the gloves..That's making things alot worse. Do a little more
gentle scruffing and respond a lot kinder if nipped. There's people on
here really experienced with lil' nippers, but I can tell ya for
sure...you gotta loose the gloves and learn to handle the fert with
confidence and love..
just my two cents..

I was told when I was faced with the same problem to spray hands with bitter
apple. I did not try this but I have heard that it works.
The following few sentances i copied from a webpage i use a lot
Sometimes a ferret which has been mistreated will bite out of fear, or an
older ferret might bite because of pain, either in the mouth or elsewhere.
In either of these cases, strict discipline isn't going to do any good. For
an animal in pain, of course, take it to the vet. For an abused ferret, try
one of the alternatives mentioned below, and have a lot of patience: the
ferret has to learn to trust someone when all it has known before is abuse.
The URL where I got this is :
http://www.ferretcentral.org/faq/part3.html#nipping
Maybe reading there can help some more?
The next paragraph also comes from a web page:
This is a page about the ferrets who really need our help. Those are the
adult ferrets who have for one reason or another turned to problem biting as
a means of communication with the world. I stress here and throughout this
web page that adult ferrets with serious biting problems are not normal.
Very few healthy, happy ferrets with conscientious owners are biters; in
this one respect, happy ferrets are all the same, more or less. While some
of the topics addressed here might help with training a kit not to nip, the
ordinary kind of training that any young animal, whether it be ferret,
puppy, kitten, or even child, needs will not be a major focus of this page.
If you are looking for tips on training your kit or young ferret, a better
resource would be Mary Schefferman's The Ferret: An Owner's Guide to a
Happy, Healthy Pet or Deborah Jeans' A Practical Guide to Ferret Care,
available at many bookstores or through your local shelter. Ferret Central
contains a nip training FAQ with many suggestions for training kits. The
Ferret Mailing List is also an excellent resource; you can subscribe by
sending a message to ferret-request@cunyvm.cuny.edu asking to be added to
the list.
The url of that is

I hope this will help you some. I know my new ferret...Her name is
Spirit...She loves to attack feet. So I have to warn people of that also.
Something I am working on
Good luck and bless you!
As far as your missing ferret....Did you run a add in the paper? I knew a
girl who ran a add in the paper saying Ferret stolen...If you know someone
who has recently gotten a ferret it may be stolen. She got a lot of leads
and lucky to her someone called saying her neighbor had just gotten a ferret
and it turned out to be hers!!!!
Keep me posted on both issues. Thanks
Amy
