I thought you could ONLY buy a ferret fixed. How are you able to have your
ferret have babies? Now, I know a female can die if she doesnt breed every
single time. But im confused. Can anyone help me?

I would say that most people probably should not have a ferret that is not
altered. Or at least not a novice. There are private breeders out there
that do sell their babies whole, but usually with a spay/neuter contract. I
think part of the reason Marshall Farms sells them altered is because it's a
whole lot easier to sell them fixed than it is to sell them
intact....ferrets in rut SMELL! ;-) In any case, the majority of people
really should not breed their ferrets. There are waaaaay too many ferrets
in shelters as it is. I'm not saying that breeding is a horrible thing,
because a lot of ferret breeders also do rescue or will take their babies
back should a problem arise that their new owners cannot keep them.
Fortunately you've come to the right place, there are a few breeders that
frequent APF. :)

A female ferret can also be given a "Jill Jab" by a vet to bring her out
of heat.
