Yeah, yeah...I know. Ferrets shouldn't eat too much dairy. But when
you're an 11 year old hob and you want some cheesecake, who am I to
refuse you?

And, if you're interested in seeing the little dessert boy's prodigy,
you can see them here, from just being cute to fishing for goldfish:

Both of his unexpected litters got to get together this weekend in
Pennsylvania, and the seven girls and four boys had a wonderful time.
Except of course for getting their first shots, that is.
Soon they'll all be headed to their new homes. Which is always a
bittersweet time....you're happy that they've grown and thrived and
they're going to make someone very happy, but it's sad to see them go.
But, the one thing I won't miss is cleaning up after them. :)

I love that look on Doppels face. Stay away from my cheesecake. Hmmm,
come to think of it, I have the same look eating cheesecake. The babies
are just plain too cute for words.

Hey Brenda!
I would love to see some pics of his son, since he came to me already
neutered. FYI for those of you who don't know Tony, he came from a
laboratory and was used for flu research, and for breeding more ferrets
to continue their work with/on. When the lab ran out of money/ended
their testing project (I'm not sure which), the ferrets were surrendered
to Rocky's Ferret Shelter to be adopted out. I think that's how the
story went, but honestly, I wasn't there when they came in, if I'm
wrong, please someone who knows the story for certain, feel free to
correct me.
:)
Here are some pics of Meatman's daddy....he's such a laid back guy.
He's the Jeff Spicoli of my ferret crew, if there was a stoner table in
the lunchroom, Tony would surely be sitting at it.

Plus a lot more at http://www.pooflinger.com/tony
Yes, he was attempting to eat a small bar of hotel soap in the
tonysoap.jpg photos. He thought it was more delicious than cheesecake.
Like I said, stoner. He musta had the munchies. "But Mr. Hand, doesn't
that make it OUR time?"

Yes~~Kim, Six ferrets from the lab were transported to Rocky's and
during transportation Punky and Tony well lets say got together. Then
came four beautiful babies one being MeatMan now called Jay~Jay. Only
by me as he is MeatMan to everyone else even my vet{she even refuses to
call him Jay~Jay}
My first trip to Rocky's was a few days after the flu ferrets came in
and on that day the call came in that they were ADV neg. Carrie and I
moved them over to the main shelter. I remember Pig Pen {sorry}{ that
was his shelter name} very well. One big stinky whole hob he was!!!! He
is still as handsome as he was then!! I love the fact that he kept the
rings around his eyes! He is just beautiful!! When you see Jay~Jay I
think you will see who he looks like.

Gotta see pics of my JJ's(now we call him Goose) half siblings.
I met my Goose that first night of the rescue and I fell head over
heel. He is a big goofy boy. Loves to play and jump. My son came up
with his name, I think from Top Gun. LOL
Send those pics Brenda!

Yeah, he somehow ended up keeping his nice eyeliner and big hob head.
He is a very handsome boy, but he does have some problems with his hips
and his range of motion in his backlegs. Probably from being caged for
so long at the lab.
He's now a free range ferret, and his movement has improved some, but
he's still far from normal. His back legs sort of paddle, but that
doesn't slow him down one bit. He reminds me of a dog with hip
dysplasia, but the vet stated that he didn't think it was painful, it
was just lack of muscle tone and usage, and told us to let him have as
much exercise as possible. He also agreed that low impact type exercise
such as swimming would do him well also. Unfortunately, he does not
like the pool, or the tub, so that's out.
When he first arrived here, and after his quarantine, he was so confused
as a houseferret. He would get lost within the house. He had no idea
how to drink from a water fountain/bowl. (our houseferrets have one of
those filter fountains, it looks like this:
http://www.pooflinger.com/tony/fountain.jpg) He would stay in the
bedroom and not come out to the living room to eat, where the central
food/water station is located. I ended up rigging a water bottle and
extra food bowls to the footboard of the bed, and another in the music
area of the house, because he started losing weight, because he wouldn't
come into the living room like the rest to eat. Thankfully, by
Christmas, he was acting like he'd been here forever. But at first, he
was the invisible ferret, who would skitter and run and hide from people
when he saw them. It was a challenge, that's for sure. I can't say
much for the socialization that he got at the lab, I can only imagine he
was kept in a very small enclosure without any out time.
I am very glad he's here with us now. I think he is, too. He loves the
new menu as well. His favorite snack is big marrow bones like we give
our dog: http://www.pooflinger.com/superbowltony.jpg That was his
superbowl halftime treat. :)
It's fun to watch a ferret blossom into a real ferret from a lab ferret.
It honestly was a very rewarding experience watching him go from
scared to death of everything to being the man about the house.

Doppels is such a special old soul. I love reading about his lifestyle
and how he eats with you and sleeps with you. Boy, are you lucky to
have him in your Life! He's lucky to have someone who understands
exactly what he needs and what he likes and allows him to do pretty
much what he pleases. :) Love the photos of Doppels snacking on
cheesecake.
Tony is a dreamboat! He's such a sweetheart. I remember him from
Ofest last year. I gave him lots of smooches and hugs - couldn't help
it - he's so lovable. He's a lucky fellow to have such a great home.
His photos are great - love the ones of him with his car. :)

Just want to clarify....the day Brenda and I went to the shelter was
actually about 2 weeks after the flu ferts got there. They were at the
end of their quarantine and were only waiting on ADV results.
I remember how scared these ferrets were, especially Punky. I spent
hours holding her, helping her to learn people were good. I love
hearing how well they are all doing now. Thanks for the pictures.
Gotta love those eye rings on Tony. Can't wait to see new ones of
Punky and MeatMan (Jay-Jay).
