Spike is 2 1/2 years old, in otherwise great health, but for about the
past month.....he has been pulling all of the hair on the inside of his
tail off. I've seen him doing it a few times, and it looks like he's
just tugging at his tail really hard, and here recently it is looking
pretty thin. On the outside of his tail it's still as thick as ever,
but the inside is a little sparse.
Anyone have experience with this??

Is the skin raw or ok?
My DC chewed all the fluff off the base of his tail in one night and left
the skin red raw - turned out he had impacted anal glands and it was the
irritation that caused him to do this. The impaction was caused by him
having runny poops and them not emptying when he went to the litterbox.
I'm in the UK where anal glands are not routinely removed, and realised
while typing that this may not even apply to Spike, but still it may help
someone. :o)
