I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your purrs last night, it
worked! We went round there again in the evening to feed the brood.
They have a cat flat and the 4 others came straight in as soon as they
heard us. I told Max not to call for George as he might recognise his
voice as being the last one to give him the dreaded 1/2 a pill! So I
went out (slightly panicking) and called him, and in he came from next
door's garden. I have no idea where he was all day but thank goodness
he came in, still only ate his dinner couldn't catch him again for his
tablet, but I rang the vet and he said not to worry if he missed one,
the important thing was that we'd found him and he was drinking. He
looks so thin, it breaks my heart. He used to struggle getting himself
through the catflat and now he's so wasted, I'm not sure he's going to
get better as he hasn't improved. It's so weird, he's on half the
dosage my Otis is, and Otis is 6 years older than George, but Otis is
doing so well with his kidneys and his diabetes. I think part of the
problem is that I crush Otis's tablet in with his meal, whereas they
force George's down his throat which really stresses him and I think
sometimes he coughs it up. I have told them everything I've learned,
but the cats all eat out of each others bowl, it's like they have a
taste out of one, then move to the next, even though it's all the same
food, very odd to watch.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now, I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to
you all for your kind thoughts.

What I finally figured out is if I crush Pearl's meds and mix them in a
small amount of food, she eats it all up and then I can put down more wet
food that she can come back to and it wouldn't hurt SUgar if she ate it (an
extremely unlikely event but I don't want to take chances). This also means
I can tell that Pearl got all of her meds and it gives me a means to check
on that when we have a cat sitter too. (The thing I have most worried about
in this situation since Idon't expect them to have to stick around all day!)
I'm glad kitty came back.

Whew! Just a BCT then. He's probably proud of himself. All you
can do is give him a welcome home petting and say, "Yeah, you
got me -- but please, please don't do it again!"

Glad to hear he's home, even though he's not taking his pills. Just a
thought, since I have to deal with the same thing when I have meds to
give someone (which thankfully hasn't been all that often). Since my
crew all swap around with the food bowls, whoever needs the medication
gets their meds, mixed in a small amount of tuna, before I put down
the bowls. Course, everyone has to get some of the tuna, but I can
monitor whoever needs the dose to make sure they get it. So far it's
worked well, though I know some meds would have a taste that could
overwhelm the tuna taste. Also, have to keep in mind that cats all
have their own ideas when it comes to treats, and some might not like
tuna. I know Marina has talked about having to switch around what she
hides the pills.

I am never good at pilling Rusty. But back when he had his urinary blockage,
TED prescribed some huge pills. I think they might be
acidifiers. Anyway, they were liver flavoured. Rusty just ate them like
treats. Wonder why they don't flavour all vet. pills like that?

Well, that doesn't always work; the cat may not like the treat, and it
would be harder to *make* him eat something like that than to just get
a pill down his throat. At least that's been my own experience. :-)
