We interrupt this s*** slinging to comment and question ferret action...
I've always heard, and Riley does this, that ferrets like to poop in
corners. Well, SallyMae has decided that noone is going to decided where
SHE poops. If SallyMae feels the need to poop and she's making her way
across the middle of the room, she backs up a few steps and poops... in the
middle of the room. Everything seems normal... well formed, solid, dark
poops... eats like a piggy... terrifies anything that is standing still...
sleeps about 18 hours a day... etc etc etc.
Does anyone else's fuzz butts poop in the middle of a wide open
room/floor???

Sure do! Ferrets are the equivalent of the worst case of toddler panty
training.

Yup, got a couple. That is when I yell no, go sprinting across the
floor, snatch their little hinnies up and go deposit them in the litter
box.

Mine always use corners, two specific ones, in their cage. All of them USUALLY
use corners while out playing as well. Except for Quasimodo, who, sometimes,
will be lumbering (he's quite large) across the floor, come to a stop, relieve
himself, then continue on.

All of my kids are pretty good for the most part. Every now and then
though, when they're too busy playing, they will back up wherever they
happen to be standing. If I catch them, a stern "uh-uh, potty goes
potty box" usually takes care of it. My Tessa (the little heathen) is
the funniest....she'll be a good three feet from the box and back up
two steps at a time, looking up at me each time she stops to see if
she's going to get another "uh-uh". She walks herself backwards all the
way to the box before letting go. LOL

Yeah, whoever wrote that ferrets always use corners never had a
ferret!! LOL I have some who just go wherever they happen to be. My
life has changed since I converted to tile floors!! Much easier
clean-up.

And here I though Jabe was the only ferret to do that. lol I
think Jabe just doesn't want to take time to walk to a corner.

Yep, ours do it in the middle of the floor too. I think it actually has to
do with where your foot is most likely to find poopie. But maybe that's
just me. ;-) Ours have a fondness of pooping right in the doorway too.

Non-corner poops are called Land Mines here at The Love Zoo! LOL.
Most will back up to a box/papers but we have a few who will squat
where they are. Rotten babies.

Hey Julia,
My ferret Doppels also poops wherever he pleases. Right in the middle
of the living room, in the bathroom near the human litterbox...wherever
he happens to be when the time is right. I chalk his bad litterbox
manners up to him being 11 years old, and having more important things
to do than search out a potty box. :) He's like a spoiled rock star,
he has people that take care of that for him, why should he bother?
He's also healthy and has nice (?) normal turds. LOL Like any poop can
be described as "nice"...ha!

Worse around here is that we all tend to go barefoot (or socks only, if it's
cold) at home.
We've learned to watch where we step, not just to keep from squashing ferrets,
but to also keep from mashing their droppings.

Every once in a while I get the pleasure of learning a new word or term.
Something obviously in general use somewhere, but that I've never run across
before. So, please, illuminate me. What's "toe jam" ?

It's a slang term for the gunk that collects between the toes. LOL

Interesting, and as you alluded, perfectly applicable. Thank you.

If he's 11, he deserves to poop wherever he wants. Doppells sounds like
an adorable old man.
