Yeah, I have four babies here that I didn't plan on having.
Why you ask? What, are you some backyard breeder who can't keep track
of your ferrets? No.....I have an 11 year old hob who I mistakenly
figured would long be sterile/not up to the task. Mistakenly assumed.
He was. He did the deed, and man, was it suprising when I heard the
babies peeping from a cage one night, back on 5/7/05.

Doppels is the dad, and Miss Thing is the mom.
The babies all have homes, so no worries. They are not going to anyone
who is breeding, as I got DoppelHams some 3 years ago at age 8 to live
in a forever old hob home from a shelter operator who wanted him to not
have to be neutered to find his forever home. He's 11 now, and healthy
as a horse. Blind as a bat with detached retinas (cringes for the
babies future eye health, but the future owners know of that), but no
adrenal, no insulinoma...just a blind, dirty old man of a dad. I have
generations of Mom's background, which is pretty much congenital disease
free save for one case of CHF.
But yeah, I am blessed with four BOYS (all boys in one litter? I am in
heaven!) who will soon be breaking my heart when they go to their
forever homes.

I got home from our weekend roadtrip. I got my phone messages.
Lovely, I have two unmanageable Carolina Ferret kits coming in as
surrenders. In the surrender interview, I told them that CF would take
them back. They absolutely refused to go back to that place, let
alone, return the kits. I'm holding back here with exactly what they
said.
So ya had an oops litter. You have chronicalled their birth, and
development. There is no doubt that they have been handled, loved, and
given the best of everything.
After arranging this surrender, I visited the Carolina Ferret website.
Christ, even the owner talks about not knowning "Who The Daddy Is" on
her website with a bunch of kits. Carolina Ferrets needs to go on
Maury Povich. I was disgusted, and so was the owner surrendering the
two kits. She thought she was going to a private breeder, instead she
refers to it as a mill. I set her straight, and gave her some private
breeder websites. But I asked her to take a big hiatus in having any
ferrets. All kits are nippy, I explained. She said these kids were to
the bone and tossing heads. Again, I told her take a break, and go
work some shelter. She felt so defeated. She had done her homework,
and specifically gone to a breeder to avoid the Pet Store issues.
I did my job. She's not even in this state, but she agreed to go to a
shelter and volunteer before getting her next ferret. She was so
upset about the surrender. She felt it as a personal failure. This
woman jumped through every hoop I presemted about ferret care. It so
disappointed me that she refused to return the ferret to the breeder.
That is protocol for all shelters. But after hearing her upset with
the kits, I understood. She's to get back in contact with me for an
appointment for surrender, since she is out of state, and hours away
from here.

Thanks Julia! I so enjoyed chronicalling (sp?) their life from day one.
They're so bad and wild boys now, it's hard to get them in frame on my
old digital camera. They are all very healthy and happy, and loving the
chicks and mice. Mom however, she's ready to be done mothering a squad
of bratboys....she spends a lot of her time away from them in the
upstairs of their cage, but she's not ready to be completely removed
from them, as they still honk for her. They'll stay with her till
they're about 9-10 weeks of age, before they go home.
In the meantime, I have SO MUCH FUN playing with them and spoiling them.
It's like grandchildren, you can spoil them rotten, knowing that
eventually, they'll go to their forever home. LOL

As a writer I would think you might be familiar with the words slander
and libel. Then again, maybe only good writers understand what those
words mean.

The boys are totally adorable and I've so enjoyed seeing their pix and
watching them grow from day 1. How many folks are lucky enough to see
their little weezils grow up and know they're being cared for, dearly
loved and being fed the best diet possible? Not many, I'm sure. Thank
you, Kimmay! Can't wait to meet my boys. :) I know it's gonna break
your heart to let them go, but I promise you, they'll be cherished and
very well taken care of for the rest of their long, happy, healthy
lives.

Kim's babies are always a delight!
Barb, I so hope that those two Carolina Ferrets are unmanageable due to
the lack of socialization and not through genetic bad temperament, as
is quite possible with ferret mills such as hers. If they can be
turned around, I know you'll do it. I have heard so much about the bad
temperament of the kits she sells that I have to wonder how she can
live with herself...I hope the money's worth it to her for the hell she
puts the kits and their unknowing buyers through.

The group that is being mentioned is comprised of many good people.
Everyone has their own personality and no one should be bashed as a
group. Personal battles between individuals should be kept private,
and not be lumped onto a board or referred to as a group. I have been
guilty of airing personal laundry a couple of times, and felt badly for
it later. For that, I do apologize. However, I hate being put down
for belonging to a certain group, just because a couple of people have
a problem with a couple of other people. The shame of it all.
As for KJ and Carolina Ferrets........Barb did not go into ANY details.
I have BEEN to KJ's and I can totally agree with the negativity that
people talk about there. I won't go into details either. BUT, I HAVE
been there. KJ has some fans too......yippee for them and her. But
don't bash someone for stating that 2 surrenders came in that came from
this place, and the people that surrendered wanted them to have a good
chance with Barb instead of going back to the breeder.
Stick me with a fork......I'm done.

Barb and Lisa are just two of several of the best shelter operators
I've had the pleasure to get to know. You couldn't ask for a better
friend than Kim. Jean is another terrific shelter op who has battled
cancer herself. She's an inspiration to many.

I'm a member of Pooflingers and proud of it. I have no clue who this
Sharon person is (and after what I've witnessed here, I don't want to
know her), and she doesn't know me from Adam.
And for the record, I'm in my 40's and have only been drunk one time in
my life, when I graduated, with honors, from college after spending 2
years working full time, going to school full time, and having a
toddler at home. So this Sharon person's statement of all Pooflingers
being a bunch of drunks is totally untrue and is slander.

What a hateful thing to ask. You're referring to innocent ferret kits.
Two of them are my boys.
I don't do drugs and I don't drink. Yep, I am Pooflinger member.
Again, I don't drink or do drugs and I don't lie or spew forth hate on
any boards to which I belong. There was no trade of anything for my
boys. They are beautiful, sweet little ferrets who are dearly loved by
Kim and will continue being loved here in my home. I can't believe you
are expending your negativity and hate on these sweet, innocent kits.
Thank goodness they are so surrounded by positive energies, kindness
and love that your negativity and hate can't hurt them. You know,
ferrets teach us Joy, Happiness and Love. That's what they are all
about. They don't understand hate. It's a darn good thing they can't
read all the hurtful posts on this forum. Wouldn't they be
disappointed and saddened by the extreme hate going around here and the
fact that so many of their humans are actually enjoying being hateful
to one another? Sad, very, very sad.
