About my 3-legged boy, "Buddy", we picked him up two days ago and he is
a easy going sweetie. He hasn't had the best life, though not bad, just
not great (probably barely good if you ask me). Both his front legs
were dislocated or broken as a result of a kid"playing" with him by
swinging him around holding onto his legs. He got 3 screws in each leg
due to that and while he was healing one of the splints was wrapped to
tight, even cutting into his skin and reducing circulation. Some time
after the splint was removed his foot literally "fell off!". Now he has
a stump right where the ankle would be and hobbles around on 3 feet. He
does ok but of course doesn't have good balance (which can be
espicially bad in the litter box - err, sometimes yuck). His stump is
probably sore and we need to watch closely to make sure he does'nt
break the skin open due to walking on it. He is compensating by keeping
his one good front paw turned inward to the center to do like a tripod
type deal, but he also uses the stump just as much. The vet says his
x-rays show artheritis in both his legs. Poor guy. :-(
Plus to make matters worse he has bacteria infection in his ears, two
swollen lymph nodes, a swollen spleen (will probbly have to be removed)
and a "odd" look to one of his adrenal glands...oh and watery eyes. I'm
worried about him and feel so bad that now once his quality of life is
really great (if I do so say so myself - hehe) that he is again having
to go to vet's and be worked on. Maybe has lymphoma. Sigh. :-(
Ahh well, I just realized I'm rambling on to total strangers. hehe. I'm
just curious if anyone else has any simular experiences as it is always
a great learning lesson to hear other ferrets stories.
Thanks for listening.

The kid needs to be swung around by his legs then let go of!
I hate stupid hoomans and non-trained children with a passion!
The kids eyes are watery because he's realizing he doesn't EVER have to
be neglected or abused again, tears of joy, left with some painful
memories of his past. :(
He's home! You did an awesome awesome thing!
Congrats on your new Buddy and bless your heart! :) :)

Ramble on! It was a joy to read about your boy, and what you're doing
to restore him. Good luck to you.
