Ferret treats - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page

Our Bacchus eats two kinds of kibble, Totally Ferret and Marshall active
adult. I supplement this with a small amount of Ferretvite and a couple
Bandits daily.

I'm wondering, however, if it would be OK to give him treats from the people
table, i.e., little bits of cooked chicken, beef, pork sausage, etc.
Nothing exotic, just small amounts of meat. It seems reasonable and would
add some variety. Don't know if he would like it, but before I try, I
thought I'd ask some of you old hands. thx - CW

So glad to see someone wanting to 'treat' their ferret with meat!! Most
folks consider sugary treats for their ferrets and, of course, they are not
a good idea.

As long as the meat isn't really spicy, I would think it would be good for
them. I've tried giving chicken to my kids, but they show no interest -
I've tried various kinds of meat, both raw and cooked and they still aren't
interested. Hope you have better luck than I've had! Let us know how it
goes?

In addition...you might want to keep the salt amount (In the cooked meat)
down.

My Bonnie likes a sliver of cooked chicken or a flake of fish. I
wouldn't worry unless it was too highly seasoned.

Just as a side note to what Jacquie and MC said....I'd watch the sausage a
bit though. Maybe anything that would/could produce a lot of gas. I can
remember watching an episode of Emergency Vets where a lady killed her dog
with kindness....she just adopted a dog and thought the dog was starving
(wouldn't touch the dog food) so she fed the dog sausage and sure enough the
dog bloated up. Unfortunately she couldn't be saved. So just remember to
feed in moderation.

whify
Hi

My two girls (whify and wombat) like ferret food and human food. They go
mental for raw chicken or in fact any raw meats. Wombat also likes fruit,
oranges, apples, raw potato and both like a little lick of ice cream on
vary rare occasions. They also love smails from the back garden. Be
careful on the snails as the slime tends to stick to their chins which
they love to wipe down you as soon as you pick them up, it's not just
affection!!!
