We have 3 ferrets, Rosie, a 12 week old female Sable, Coco, about 10
weeks old, a chocolate male, and Joey, a 7 week old Chocolate male.
Rosie was alone for about a month or so before we aquired the other two.
Rosie is bullying the little ones. She will lay on top of them, and
sometimes will drag them around by the scruff. I am assuming that she is
just establishing that she is the Grand Wazoo.
The little ones don't appear to be getting hurt (although they tend to
make a bit of noise). They don't shy away from her, and, in fact will
seek her out at times to try to play.
All three will eat and drink at the bowls we set out when they are
running around the living room, and Rosie is very polite when sharing
the bowls. All three can have their noses in the bowl at the same time
without problems, and if one of the little ones are eating, Rosie will
leave them alone.
We have the two little ones sharing a cage, as Rosie doesn't let them
sleep when they share the large cage. They get along great, and cuddle
together to sleep.
How long should it take before Rosie chills out? I tend to think that
once the males grow, the problem should correct itself, but I am hoping
to get the three into the large cage soon.
I've added a couple of pictures of the Chocolates. Coco is a Marshall,
Joey is a PVF. Joey is a little bruiser. He is about the same size as
Coco, even though he appears to be a bit younger (he still has only baby
teeth). Coco likes his sleep. I can take him out of his cage while he is
sleeping, and he will just snooze on my chest for hours. Joey is still a
bit unsure of everything, he has only been home for a few days. Rosie is
insane. She goes non-stop when she is out of her cage. I describe her as
a kitten on amphetamines.

They're so cute :-)
I don't think you have anything to worry about, and I even wonder if you
should keep them apart when sleeping. Maybe Rosie (btw I have a Rose that
looks like her) could have a longer playtime than the others outside the
cage to wear her out a bit more ?
When I started out with 2 male kits I was always hearing a lot of noise from
the cage because they were keeping each other awake, and they were never any
the worse for wear.......

Your description of them together doesn't sound abnormal
in any way. Their play is a form of rough house at time,
wrestling and such, and they do like to determine who is
the "boss". especially the female and "especially" if she
was first. The age rage is great, only a month or so apart.
I checked the photos, adorable ferrets, as they all are.
One suggestion though. I noticed the use of terry towels
as a blanket in one photo, they can lead to accidents,
like nails getting caught and they yank until they rip out
the nail. I also read once a sad story of a geriatic old
fellow who got caught in a pulled lose loop of thread
and strangled, so, even though I did use them years
ago myself, I have heard enough and seen mine get a
nail caught a couple of times that I won't use them.
What they actually really love, I go to the "thrift shop"
where you can buy second hand baby blankets,
comforters, sleep sacks and the like for only a
couple of bucks a piece. We have a bin full of them
and change/wash them them about every week or
so which keeps them smelling not so "ferrety".

First of all...they're all adorable!! Including Willie. ;-) I wouldn't
really call it bullying. I'd call it....playing! Perfectly normal. And
when the boys are big enough I'm sure they'll drag Rosie around too. But be
prepared...females generally are spunkier than males so she'll definitely
give them a run for their money. :) If possible I would probably put them
all in the same cage. They'll play with one another and eventually they'll
all collapse together. Wow....can't even imagine having three kits in the
same house at the same time! ;-) God be with you!! ;-)

Willie is absolutely amazing with them. He weighs in at 90 pounds, and
is so incredibly gentle when he plays with them...
We still keep a VERY close eye on them when they are together. He hasn't
gotten angry once with them, but when Rosie hangs off of his lip by her
teeth, we get a little nervous.
We never intended to have three. We got Rosie on a whim, although I have
wanted a ferret for 15 years. My wife always said no, because she didn't
like "those little rat feet". Now she admits that the feet are more
bear-like than rat-like, so we are OK. Rosie is "hers", and she never
stops making cutesie noises to her. Coco followed because you can't
resist a little kit all alone in a cage at the pet store (plus, he WAS
ON SALE. I can't resist a bargain). There was no option with Joey. I
mean, just LOOK at that big old head, and think about how miserable he
would be if the idiots at the pet store DID come back and buy him later,
like they said they were going to.
I am better now, though. I went to the pet store today and managed to
resist the free ferret that a girl was trying to give away (someone had
dumped it at her doorstep). But it was difficult.

But 4 is such a nice even number :-) And if you can't resist a bargain, how
can you resist a ferret for free ?

I can believe that about Willie. Goldens are an awesome breed. Both my Mom
and step-brother have one each. Still, it is a good idea to be cautious.
Silly man...nobody ever intends to have as many ferrets as they have....it's
called ferret math and there is no escaping it! Hmm...I suppose your wife
wouldn't want to come to my house then. We have two rats as well. ;-) And
yes, I would agree, ferret feet are more like bear feet. I love their feet
so much that I got ferret pawprints as a tattoo a few years ago. :)
Soooo...are you sure you can't take in a fourth ferret?? ;-)
