Man to serve prison time for killing bird
By Tim Hudson
E-E County Reporter
A Bartlesville man has been sentenced to serve 18 months
in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections
for stomping a bird to death in the presence of a
Bartlesville police officer.
Associate District judge Curtis DeLapp sentenced Clarence
Eugene Billingsley, 28, to a five-year sentence with 18
months to serve in the state prison.
Billingsley had entered a blind plea of guilty to a
single charge of cruelty to animals on Oct. 25, 2004.
Police say that on Aug. 10, 2004, police responded to
Billingsley's apartment in the 900 block of Southeast
Third Street in reference to a report that a man was
destroying his apartment.
Upon arrival, officers noted a yellow cockatiel bird
lying on the grass in front of the apartment, alive
but unable to move.
When officers told Billingsley the bird was in need of
attention, he reportedly walked over to it and stomped
the bird with his foot and ground his foot on top of
the bird's body, killing it.
Billingsley then reportedly told officers that he purchased
the bird for his girlfriend so he could do whatever he
wanted with it.
