Budgie troubles... - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Tanooz
Hello everyone,

I have a query about my budgie. He is nearly 2 years old and i noticed
recently he has a bit of trouble moving around his perch; it is as if
he is limping. He has absolutely no trouble on flat grond and flying
but its on his perch where i can notice this 'limping'. He can even
scratch his head with this foot. I also notice when he is on my finger
his weight is on his good leg. I have a thought that it might be
connected to when his foot got stuck to some string not so long ago.
Please reply... Should i take him to an avian vet or will he recover
after a while? Is it serious?
Thank you,
Tanya and her worried budgie Pretty Boy

It's really impossible for anyone here to diagnose what's wrong with your
budgie. He could have injured the leg, and an infection that would end
killing him could develope. It might be nothing.

Avian vet check is what's needed.

Mark Klebanoff
weakness in 1 foot is also a sign of kidney or gonadal tumors, to
which budgies are very susceptible. Better get it checked out.

Coherency goes a long way when giving advice. Try it sometime.

BLL-bird lover lady
Tanya,

I agree with David and Mark. You should probably have Pretty Boy
checked out by an avian vet if this keeps going on.

As far as perches, a variety (sized for his little "feet") would
probably be good. Not just the round but, flat, "concrete" treated ones
(like Polly Pastels) or tree limb type ones would probably be good for
him. I have read in bird books that a variety is good for "exercise".
Stay away from the sandpaper treated covers....they can cause sores.

Good luck and keep us posted as to how Pretty Boy is doing and what the
vet says.
