Yorkie allergies - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Lola
My 1 year old Yorkie has allergies. It started with licking her paws to biting her little arms raw. Our vet suggested a shot of steroid that lasted just over a week. She is back at it again. The allergies affect her eyes and ears as well. Anyone have experience with this? If so, please respond. Thanks!

Lola. I also have two yorkies. One is almost 5 and the other will be 3 this winter. I have fought allergies EVERY summer with these guys!!!! They will start licking the paws and go from that to biting and scratching til they bleed. What my vet suggested was to go out and buy some CHILDRENS BENADRYL. (chewable tabs or liquid, doesn't matter) I am to give my yorkies 1/2 a pill, twice a day OR a HALF teaspoon of the liquid, twice a day. Whatever is easier for you. (I, myself, prefer the pills, so I can hide it in a bit of hamburger so they take it.) This is the only thing that will work for me, but be advised...it will take a week for it to get into the system in order for it to work, but have patience..it should! I have to keep my dogs on this all summer until it cools down. All you can do is try it.
