Rabbit Wont eat - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Sally Rose
i have a six month old house rabbit who before a couple of days ago loved his food. i put my bunny to bed on friday night, and when i got up to feed him on saturday morning he didnt touch his food at all- normally he circles my feet until i put the bowl down because he cant wait. Its now monday, and he's gone three mornings without touching his food at all. He is however, eating a little bit of hay, and some cabage. What i find most bizare though, is that he seems to really want to eat anything none edable- like paper, wood, cardboard, and even the pellets in his litter tray(which he's never bothered about before). i've checked his teeth, and they seems fine. he is still passing droppings as normal, still drinking normally, and still appears to be quite lively. can anyone offer me any advise?

I'm sorry nobody replied. I just joined today (2nd May) hoping this would be as good a forum as some others I'm in, but it seems to be all clogged up with spam.

I hope your rabbit has begun to eat more normally now. If he hasn't you really should consult a vet. You said he was eating some hay still - that's good. Could something have happened to his mix/pellets that he won't eat to make them smell or taste funny? you haven't stored them, for example, next to something with a strong odour like washing powder?

I think you should take steps to stop him eating litter pellets as they could cause gut problems. Is it wood-based cat litter you're using? (I really wish I'd quoted your post so I could look back over it and not have to rely on my failing memory!) Perhaps change his litter to newspaper with hay on top.

Anyway, please post to say what's happened. I'd love to read that he's very much better.:)
