Dogs fighting - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page

Hiya guys.
Hoping that anyone can help me with a problem. I have 2 dogs (Collie,Springer cross and Alsation/mix) who are both bitches around five years old. My brother, dad and myself inherited them when my sister had to move house, where pets where not allowed. The Collie/cross is hyper active at all times (she gets over an hour walk a day but with her breeding its to be expected, but we dont mind, kinda makes her the dog she is) and she tends to always crave attention, especially when the other dog gets it.
The other dog (alsationX) can be quite aggressive sometimes but this is partly due to the fact that her first owner seems to have been horrible with her, as she was eventualy picked up on the streets. (by the way, both dogs are from kennels).
They get along fine most of the time and are big pals but then out of nowhere they will start fighting each other, and if they where not seperated could possibly kill each other. Often they are cut and my dad, brother and I have all suffered cuts and bites when trying to seperate them. These fights can be due to a piece of food on the floor or due to absolutely nothing.
Obviously we love these dogs but how can we stop them fighting each other with out rehoming 1 of them. They have had enough turmoil in there lives already.
I know this is a long post but we are at our wits end and something has got to happen. Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

females fight end of story all females they will not kill each other when breaking them up if two of you are home grab hind quarters of each and pull apart using your arm as a scoop under bellys securing them both flip them if you have to away from aech other if you are alone the hose and a loud stop or my personal favorite I have had enough at the top of my lungs my females sound like a couple of wolves when they get into it trust me if they are equally matched do not put your hands on there collers you will be bitten dogs go for each others throats it is perfectly normal not good behavior but normal another idea is to run them untill they get what I like to call happy hang overs than they will learn to make nice over that imaginaryspace they have climed as there own I believe that all females are crazy and I am a woman sorry girls but age and before beauty in the dog world willnot work the next time you have to break up a fight put them in a time out if they are trained shoulder to shoulder next to each other for 20 minutes sitting do not let them lay down make them sit there they will not like this much but they seem to be having so much fun fighting that this will really torcher them and they are having fun fighting they actually enjoy it worrys you they are having a ball good luck.
