Sounds like Ann Arbor to me. I worked at the Humane society they are talking
about for about 9 years. Believe me,they would have even stricter rules if
they could. No one would be allowed a pet unless they were personally
approved by humane society workers and agreed to have their homes visited
weekly to make sure the owner ( oops, guardians) were doing everything to
the satisfaction of the society. I believe in humane treatment and care for
animals, but once again AA gets carried away.

Owly
I read the entire 40-page ordinance and didn't see what the big deal is
about. What am I missing here? They're much less restrictive than any
other decent-sized cities I've lived in.

I didn't read it all, but this is what someone posted.
"Read section 9:54 , it is quite clear they want to limit the number of animals
kept to under 12 regardless of what they are other than tropical fish."
I believe it applies mostly to breeders.

There's a limit of 12 domestic animals, and probably what is worrisome is
that they consider parrots and lizards domestic rather than exotic. But
they do make provision for breeders, and anyone who already has more animals
than that can keep them...they've probably been watching all those Animal
Cops shows where everybody thinks it's terrible that so many animals are
kept in some homes...then everybody thinks it's terrible that places make
laws to limit them.

I'm no fan of regulation, quite the opposite in fact. Then again, I'm no
fan of A2 either, our own little California in Michigan.

Jackie Gleason once observed: "I object to your judging my drinking by
your capacity." It's the same thing all over again. Since the little
old lady with 100 cats couldn't care for them by our standards, no one
shall keep more than a dozen.

It's that kind of thinking that made me discontinue annual gifts to the
humane society aand similar organizations.

I have 17 hermit crabs......would that make me a criminal?
