I'm making Birdie Bread.
In my never-ending attempt to get these guys to eat pellets, I put
about a pound of the Roudybush crumbles in it, along with frozen peas,
shredded carrots, fine-diced yams and raisins. I used the corn bread
mix as the base, but I did not have any baking powder, so I added a
little soda and added an egg to hold it together. The batter looked
like something the dog hacked up on the carpet, but it smells quite
good. We shall see. I'm hoping Willie Cockatoo does not do his normal
new-food dance--give it The Eye, the T4 (Touch-Tongue Taste Test),
shake his head like he just tasted doo-doo, then grab it with his foot
and drop it unceremoniously on the cage floor. Then scream. Oh,
yes....

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... I can smell it from here. Yummy! I put a variety of
baby foods in mine. Fruits, veggies, cereals, yogurt, even poultry. It's a
lot easier than slicing and dicing a bunch of stuff, although I do usually
put in chopped broccoli, pumpkin seed, hulled sunflower and nuts. I only
have one bird out of sixteen that won't eat it. The rest love it.

Are you sure the heat doesn't destroy the vitamins and minerals in the
pellets? Pellets have to be cold processed in order to retain their
nutritional value. If they are extruded (and consequently heated to
facilitate the process), vitamins and minerals must be added to
replace the nutrients that are destroyed. I'm afraid I don't see the
value in adding pellets to a product that will be baked.

Minerals aren't destroyed by heat, and only some of the vitamins are.
Google "heat-sensitive vitamins" and you'll get more info.

That reminds me of when my son was little.(this is OT by the way)
I once said, when he was about 3, that if he didn't wash his 'bits' in the
bath, he would get mushrooms growing on it.
Thereafter I could not get him to eat mushrooms. I spose he imagined they
had been grown on some chaps 'bits' lol. I adore cream of mushroom soup and
used to hide the tin, and tell him it was chicken soup so he would eat it. I
only told him this when he was an adult and moved away hehe.
So it is amazing what they will eat, if they don't know they are eating it
isn't it?

Alas, Starlight, according to Harrison's you are correct. I called
them once to see what I could do with the crumbs at the bottom of the
bag. They suggested sprinking them over things the birds like to eat,
but not to bake them. Evidently the heat destroys all the good stuff.

Not ALL the good stuff...minerals are left intact, as are some of the
vitamins. For example, B1 loses only about 10-20%; the majority remains
intact...niacin and Vit. E aren't considered heat-sensitive; some foods are
actually "richer" in Vit. A (ie, the Vit. A is more bioavailable) after
being cooked.
http://www.beyondveg.com/tu-j-l/raw...cooked-2e.shtml has a handy,
succinct chart for reference.
NOT that I'd advocate feeding a large portion of diets as cooked foods; I
feed raw/unprocessed as the larger percentage. But per the OP's post, there
will still be more nutrients in birdie bread containing pellets, than not.
