This is my first time to ask for advice on a newsgroup. We have three Lady
Gouldian Finches and one Zebra Finch in a cage 36"L x 18" W x 24" H. The
birds are all males. We would like to buy an American Singer Canary. Will
it be okay to put the canary in with the other birds? Will the canary still
sing if housed with the other birds?
Thanks, Dub

Yes and no. I had a canary mixed in with some finches in a large aviary
and all was well. The canary is larger than most finches, and has no
problem defending itself.
When I put the canary and a society finch in a cage together, they
"bonded" and the canary stopped singing.
So I'll say the canary is best housed alone.

I wonder why your canary stopped singing. It doesn't happen because they
'bond'. A cockbird will still sing when it is in a breeding cage with its
mate. My male canaries sing their heads off in a mixed aviary with
cockatiels, green singers and a budgie.
