My male 4 year old budgie has a habit of regurgitating seed. The problem is
not his regurgitating the seed, it's that he shakes his head and throws it
everywhere. Now this I can put up with too (even if the mess upsets my wife)
but the real problem is that during this process his head gets all sticky
with mucus and he then sticks his face into his seed bowl and you can
imagine what a mess he's in when he does this. He now looks terrible and his
head feathers are all hard and stuck together. He is also not a bird who
enjoys a bath as he totally avoids his bath. I have tried spraying him with
water but it doesn't seem to help. Any idea how I can clean his head up
without hurting him ??
thanks

Jim, this doesn't sound like normal 'affectionate' regurgitation. With the
mucous, head shaking and sticky feathers it sounds more like a sick budgie
that's *vomiting.*
I would *strongly* recommend you get him to a vet ASAP.

i was reading 'habit' as habitual, and after four years i wonder about the
sanity of the poster. otherwise, if the bird was younger, i would say it
was not adapting to seed after eating pellets from fledging. --Loren

I will just lend my support to what Mamabird said. What you
describe is a sign of illness. It could be a yeast infection
and treatable, but you must visit the vet right away.

I agree most heartily. He sounds sick.
