I am planning to go to Costa Rica and may stay there for a more extended
period of time. I was wondering if anyone knew where to find out about
taking my amazons down there with me. Is it possible to have them go for
some months and come back? Where would I even check?
Thanks.

I have searched for 2 hours on the I-Net to find any information about
taking your parrot to mexico. I have only found one site and its address is
http://www.cabovillas.com/customs.asp
Although this is a travel agency, it does say that taking live birds into
mexico is prohibited and that you should contact the agricultural inspectors
before you do.

yes, very much above and beyond the call of duty or anything else. And I
agree with Joanne, I won't be driving but flying. I'll try to check with
the Customs Department and see what they say.
You are all such a great source of information and if not specific
information, at least waking up my mind to thinking of directions to start
looking.
much thanks.

I am in the process of exporting 25 prs of s/s, w/c adult Greys, 15 H/R
babies
4 prs of ruppels and 3 prs ea of all 3 subspecies of Jardines to Mexico at
present. Their health certification requirements are the strictest I have
seen
for any country and the birds have to be quarantined for 45 days PRIOR to
export. They DO allow live birds to be imported provided they are certified
free of disease and endo/ecto parasites. The regs are very strict against
END and avian influenza as well.
