New Greenwing--what's with the head bob? - CLICK HERE for the Pet Manual Forum Home Page
Phil Crow
My wife and I just got a new greenwing macaw and he is integrating
well into our home. His old diet was rather lacking in fruits and
vegetables, and after 2 days, he is eating corn and bananas. Our
Goffin's won't after 2 months. *She's* much too refined to eat
anything but pellets. Baby steps, I guess. Oh well.

The reason for my post is that sometimes Desi will squat and stretch,
squat and stretch, with wings, uh, not tight against the body (?) and
if I didn't know better, I'd say his old owner was Jane Fonda! What
might be the trigger for this behavior, and what does it represent?
Also, he will fluff out his feathers, lean forward and pump his head
back and forth 6 or 7 times. As far as I can tell, the stimuli are
different. The aerobics are out of his cage and the headbanging is
inside. What gives? What's my new macaw trying to tell me?

Thanks for the insight, y'all...
