If you had said I could have sent you my sprouter for free. I bought one and
refuse to use it as it makes the bottom lot of seed go mouldy. I sprout in a
big tupperware container.
You can sprout your normal budgie seedmix, millet, mustard and cress seeds.
In fact almost any small budgie sized seeds. I sprout bigger stuff for my
parrots naturally.

Right, I've put some budgie seed in with some alfalfa and lindseed. It a
funny sprouter. It's called Biosnacky.....a glorifyed jar with a seive lid
and a prop. Good fun anyway.

Yup, thats the one I got. The seed on the bottom tray went mouldy. Be
careful. After they sprout, soak for half an hour in miltons sterilising
fluid (for baby bottles) for half an hour, then rinse well before feeding.
I sprout using a tupperware bowl and have not had anything go mouldy on me
so far.

neat of diluted? Doesn't it make them taste funny?
I've been diligently rinsing them twice a day and standing it to drain.
Roots have popped out. How long should the top sprout get before I feed
them?

Dilute it. Once it has been well rinsed there is no taste. I used to use
that before I bought my F10 from interhatch. That kills all kinds of fungus,
virii, bacteria etc and that's what you need to do.
I am at the moment sprouting a pigeon pulse mix for my birds and I do a
weekly batch of chickpeas for the pair of greenwinged macaws I am part owner
of.
They don't need to sprout much at all to feed. I use them as soon as small
sprouts appear. I never let them grow long.

I looked today, they have grown tons and have long white roots though no
tops as yet. What's the betting he refuses them?!

So about this soaking in Milton type stuff, what dilution will work and how
long do I leave it in for? Thanks.

You don't have to let them grow at all. The whole point is that they would
still look like seeds (if he refuses foods readily), yet the germination
process has begun within the seed/grain/legume. You can soak just until
they puff or start to split (depending on what they are) and then start
feeding. This is when the nutrient and enzyme levels are at their highest,
before they are being used up by the growing roots and plant.

I never allow mine to grow tops, I feed as soon as little roots appear.
Follow the directions on the miltons fluid. It has to be safe as it is for
sterilising babies bottles. I used it all the time before I bought my F10.

Right O, I've fed him some tonight, he looked at me funny but I think he's
tried some. He's been in an odd mood tonight, hopping about the cage,
scratching on the floor and making that very ear piercing budgie shout.
