I've noticed that my YNA has a nictating membrane that flicks sideways
across the width of the eye. It normally flicks as she's blinking. I can
see it when she's kind of sleepy and blinking slowly. My assumption is that
the nictating membrane is to protect the eye during flight.
That's what it looks like to me, but it's hard to tell from a still photo.
