As much as it pains me to do this, I am having to offer my 2 year old female
scarlet macaw for sale. Bella is a friendly bird, but I will only sell her
to someone who has macaw experience. She is an absolutely beautiful bird,
but I am not able to give her the care she needs, and feel that there are
much more appropriate homes out there. If you're local, she can come with a
very large cage, toys, large playstand, and a nice travel carrier. Cost for
everything will be $1300, OBO. If you're not local to me, I'd be willing to
arrange shipping to an appropriate home, at your expense. If interested in
just the bird, contact me, and we'll work out the cost for the bird and
shipping. I'm located in New Orleans, La. Pics on request.
If interested, please contact me at wolffe@cox.net
Also, please don't berate me for this message. It was difficult enought to
come to this decision, and I've been crying my eyes out since I made it. I
purchased her for $1500 2 years ago <she came to me a a baby>, after doing
research on what I was getting into and everything ... However, I couldn't
predict how much my husband would hate her once she found her voice, or how
my daughter would grow up screaming and panicking every time she came out of
her cage, because said husband told her "that bird will bite you if you get
too close". Considering I really can't even take her out of her cage
anymore b/c of the kids, and my husband screams at her every time she makes
noise, this is no life for her. This is not a good place for her. I know
she'd be better suited elsewhere.

Sounds to me as if the one you should get rid of is your husband.
He hates the bird, he screams at the bird, he badmouths the bird
to your daughter.
Tell you what, I'll take him off your hands for $50.

Jack hardly speaks for the "group" and loves to berate women. While this
group is not designed as a place to list things for sale, "most" people
would have no problem with her post, that is as long as it does not become
something repeated daily.

I also had a husband who abused my bird - a cockatoo - and I rehomed the
bird to save the marriage. The abuse didn't stop even though the bird's
noise was blamed for his "nerves", it just got worse. I still dream about
my bird and wake up crying, but I long ago stopped having nightmares about
the ex-husband. A cruel person is a cruel person. In the absence of the
bird, I hope he doesn't start throwing things at the kids - or you...been
there done that...

I don't frankly know how the hell you put up with your husband. There's no
way I'd want a man who didn't respect animals. I apologise as this may
well cause offense but.......he sounds like a total ****** to me (and if I
was the bird I'd throw the things back, might knock some sense into him).
He loves you right? he should accept the bird for your sake out of respect
for you. He doesn't have to love it, just respect it's right to a bit of
peace and your right to care for an animal you love! I would suggest you
put this point to him. If you pander to these things it's only going to
get worse...perhaps he's jealous?

Not everyone can deal with the requirements of having a bird in the family.
I think it's asking a lot to expect someone to simply accept a spouse's
choice to keep a pet (I know you said respect), even if it was agreed to in
advance of the purchase. How many people really know what they are getting
into; and how many uninformed people don't understand how they personally
compound the problems with their responses?
But, after the bird is gone, at whom will he direct his rage? The bird is
the easiest target at the moment for someone who really needs help.
I admire that the owner recognizes the problem to the point that she wants
to find a safe place for the bird; I hope she will take the next step and
seek counseling, with or without her husband.
I hope, too, that she recognizes her power to place the bird even if the
spouse is demanding certain financial criteria.

Sincerely,
Joanne

Hopefully Jeniffer has realized she shouldn't sell her macaw to someone
who hasn't thoroughly discussed having such a bird with their spouse.
My wife and I are separating and among the issues are two macaws, two
amazons, and a CAG all of which she purchased without my prior
knowledge. The odd part is I'll be the one keeping them.

Let us know how it all goes....
Its probably allready been asked but does your husband have any idea how
much torment this situation is putting you through?
I just hope, for your future mental health sake, that you aren't doing it
just to shut him up. Perhaps your bird is noisier because of the way he
treats her. She sounds like a delightful bird.
Our birds and animals will always love us, the humans in our lives can't
make that guarantee!!! Think about this before departing with your wonderful
scarlet Macaw.....I would take her no problems, problem is, I am in
Australia
