Judy&Fido
I have to share this:

As most of you know, my Fido is a rescue from a really bad situation I won't
repeat but let's intro this briefly. After the police brought her to the
Humane Society, the next morning I was called and told she was too sick, too
damaged to be saved and that she was going to be euthenized. I missed work,
ran to the pound, and basically turned into the Hulk until they gave her to
me with dire warnings on cost of care and shortness of life.At the time she
was totally black, lethargic, terrified of everything, especially men.

Yesterday I saw what I have always hoped for. Last weekend I introduced her
to an outside cage (her 2nd familiar inside cage but dragged to the shaded
balcony of my apartment). She usually hates being outside but not this time.
Within minutes she was cooing, eating blueberries, dancing around like a
little clown, throwing things at me (always a good sign) and most of all
hanging off a toy! She was actually playing! I have never seen her so
well-adjusted or happy. I actually burst into tears. Almost 16 years of
avian vets, steaming nutritious foods every morning, adding pellets, reading
book after book, scrithes, and just plain patience and work I have a happy
and healthy bird. She's green with little red, white, and blue patches,
slightly pudgy (ok...I'm a sucker for the sad eye trick and she knows it).
We still have black patches on her wings but this morning she actually
dropped 2 of the old old feathers. She only molted this year for the first
time, anyway. She's sexually active (or trying to be without a boy bird) for
the first time. She's eating a more diverse diet than ever before and is
more active than ever before. I'm very proud of her for coming such a long
way. It's been quite a ride. I regretfully never took a picture when she was
sick but I look at her now and I can't imagine her anyway but green.

Thanks for letting me share my happiness.

Judy
