My Mum-in-law has had a canary for a few years and her Mum has had a
budgerigar for maybe 2 years.

Her mum is getting too old to keep the budgie - is it safe to put him with
the canary?

Thanks all

Tim

no.Why cannot she keep both but in seperate cages?
A pity your granny didn't consider her age 2 years ago when she bought the
bird.

Although they may be similar in size, one is a hook-bill (budgie) and the
other a soft-bill (canary). The budgie would have a distinct advantage over
the canary if an argument were to erupt.

It would be a little like locking up a dog with a pony. They might get
along but if they don't, the dog could do mortal damage to the pony.

Aren't budgies a bit nippy though. I hear they may even harass larger
birds so a little canary sounds a bad idea. But then what would I
know...I've never had a canary!

Tim,

This is NOT a safe combination. Keep the budgie in its own cage.
Also, each bird has somewhat different dietary requirements.
