My rats' claws are really bloody sharp! They're getting long, too.
Can I just trim them a millimeter or two or is there anything I need to
be aware of like a vein that goes up the nail like in other rodents.
Thanks for any advice.

I sometimes trim the tip of my guys nails. Just like a dog, just be
careful not to cut too much or you will get the quick. I use human nail
clippers, works great!

How do you hold the still to do this? I would like to trim my rats nails but
trying to keep my reading glasses on the rat still and hold the trimmer seams to
leave me a few hands short.

That's the tricky part. I have two sons that help me with my rats. You
would need a second pair of hands. You could also try wrapping the rat
in a towel.

ROFL!!
When I first read the stupid question, that's what came to mind, with my
tongue!
When replying to trolls make sure to remove the cross posts at the top.
Trolls thrive on how much response they can get.

Hi, Joanne, I have taken my rats bck to the pet shop, it's small,
local, and they use a dremel tool on their claws. They are good at it
and don't charge. They have also trimmed teeth, if I by a big bag of
bedding or something they don't charge for that either. I would like to
get a dremel tool, but they are awfully squirmy ratties. I would be
afraid to try to cut teeth down! Does Marina, who writes in Dutch know
about the rainbow bridge? I wrote to her (in english) after going to
her website. I was in the Netherlands for a week and can understand
some (very little) but I think her rats all got sick! Also it sounds
like some people might be making fun, and fun is good, but not if you
are greiving over the loss of precious pets. Have you gone to her
website? Some of it is in english. I may be taking in some rescue rats,
but haven't heard from the person for 2 days so not sure.

Sounds like a good pet store. Not any like that around here.
Not sure who Marina is... which post are you referring too?

lidsmaapchat test. Not sure I spelled it right, also in the one-call
her moonchild. She says kiki is dood, and I wrote to a Dutch rat friend
and asked if she knows her and she said that Marinas rat have gotten
pnuemonia and many have died. She lives in Netherlands and has rattery
blue moon. My friend said that the rainbow bridge is not well know over
there, and I was worried that she was sad and maybe had a hard time
comunicating, so I wrote (in english) about the rainbow bridge, I was
the only one who wrote back, because I understand just a minute amount
of Dutch. It's late, now sure if I'm making sense here, go'night all

If you are referring to the Chris Jacob posts, I know he's a troll, he's
creating all kinds of nasty posts on other newsgroups as well.

Oh, well, it is true about her rats. I have noticed some trolls, the
yahoo groups don't seem like that. I think they can kick you off there.
It's sad if someone has ost pets and then gets made fun of.

You might be able to use a cat nail clipper.
