I don't normally like leaving mine for more than a night or two at the
most, I've certainly never left them for more than two nights but I will
be going away soon for almost a week.
If I buy extra water bottles and put maybe twice as much food in as I'd
use for a week, could I leave them?
I really don't want to but I'm not sure if taking them with me is an
option and if I could then letting them out for exercise isn't!

I have left my boys for a weekend on a few occasions and I think that really
is the maximum you can leave them, the food and water was almost gone after
that time.
Is there not any-one that can pop in on them daily and check food/water? I
have been on holiday for a week before and had one friend doing the morning
shift and one friend doing the evening! The evening friend used to make
herself a cup of tea while the boys ran around for 30 mins!!

I agree with Tarn, a week is too long without having someone drop in and
check on them. The food will be gone right away, no matter if you put
extra, the water bottles could leak and leaving them with a wet cage and
dry bottles...

more will be mine coming all the way from New Brunswick.
Making it a total of 16!!!

I wouldn't leave them for that long..:( Ratties need fresh water and 5
day old water (if any is left) wouldn't be good for them at all. It
would probably be better if someone were to come in and do the food and
water daily. Hopefully you can find a work around for this..:)
Regards Kate.

Water is a real concern for me, even if I went away a night or two I
would double up all the water bottles on the cages.
A week is way too long for them to go without someone, at least,
checking in on them. I had my sister check on my guys when I was gone
for two nights.
My other concern would be injury. What if one of them has an accident?
I would want someone coming in even if it were only for a couple of
days.
Oh, and if anyone is being medicated, I just don't go away.

I'm living a long way from friends and family, well, about 3 hours.
I could ask nicely if one of them fancies looking after them for the
week.
One thing I have noticed is that the water lasts and doesn't drip but
their food is like dogs', it doesn't matter how much you put in, they'll
always eat the lot!
